new dining plan and Pete's filet problem

Well, don't know what to say about that one. I was going to make use of the CS restaurants, skipping the TS ones, but if that is actually how the plan is going to be offered, I think I'll be doing more TS for lunches.

It doesn't say that that is the ONLY dining plan being offered, did it? Maybe it's another tier to the existing plan.

Oh, and love the CBR rooms!

Thx a mint for the post! :goodvibes

Depending on the cost, it might actually work for us as our next trip will only be a 4 day visit and since we had many long sit down dinners last time, I was thinking of just doing counter service this time to allow for more flexibility/spontaneity. :thumbsup2

cheers,
:flower3:

I was thinking the same thing. Now they will have a bargain plan the regular plan and the deluxe plan. I cant see them doing away with the other 2 in light of this plan.

Love the rooms too!!!

the new resort sounds interesting, but more interesting to me is the new dining plan beginning in january 2009...
i'm wondering if this will be what's offered for free dining next year....only counter service and snacks (2 each), no table service...that would solve Pete's filet problem...

This is the new counter service dining plan that everyone has been talking about. I do not see how it will solve the supposed filet problem though as it will be available along with the other plans. I believe the CS plan is going to be about $24.99, if I am remembering correctly. It is already posted on other countries' travel agent sites so it is a confirmed plan. There will also be the basic plan and deluxe. I believe the Premium and Platinum packages are also staying.

i was thinking of it in terms of free dining..
this year's free dining includes one TS each day.....that's both very costly to disney and creates way too much traffic in the TS restaurants...
and it's especially costly when people choose the extraordinarily expensive entrees (like filet)...
if disney instead offers the counter service only dining plan as the free dining plan, that will help out with what they're facing this year - the huge cost of free dining...plus the aggravation factor for everyone not on free dining...

According to this link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1877578, the price of the dining plan lite will be $26pp (rumor) - not such a great value, IMHO but each to their own. I may not be able to make it work for me, but others might.

As for the CBR rooms, I think the idea is fantastic but not sure it 18% of their rooms is enough ("Disney is planning the look for 384 rooms in the Trinidad South Village Area, set to be ready sometime next year. The resort has a total of 2,112 rooms.")

i agree it's not a great value..

i'm totally thinking of it in terms of free dining...
this is a way for disney to get out of free dining gracefully...or maybe not so gracefully, but i'm betting that this is the plan that they offer for free dining next year...

I am guessing they will offer this for free dining next year and offer an upgrade for x dollars per day for folks that want TS.

that's what i think too......i think they didn't realize how much pressure they would put on their TS restaurants during free dining month....
and how much ill will they'd generate among the paying customers...
not to mention how much the whole thing's costing them...
i find it hard to believe they actually generate enough extra hotel business to offset the cost of the free dining...

Mmm,,, maybe in 2005 Disney didn't realize how much extra pressure free dining would put on the table service restaurants; but now in its fourth year, that really can't be considered a legitimate issue. A business as successful and experienced as Disney would/should be reasonably expected to know that X promotion in its second offering will be more successful than in its first, and even moreso in its third and later offerings.

Now, I don't know Disney's occupancy figures - but let's say September in each year 2002 through 2004 they had a 60% rate. Free Dining in 2005 increased occupancy to 65%; in 2006 it went up to 70%; etc; 2007 - 74%; 2008, 78%

Now, again example figures only, let's say each of the 22,000 rooms went for $100 per night (when really, we know the average nightly rate across property is substantially higher):
. . . 2004 = gross hotel revenues = 1,320,000
. . . 2005 = gross hotel revenues = 1,430,000
. . . 2006 = gross hotel revenues = 1,540,000
. . . 2007 = gross hotel revenues = 1,628,000
. . . 2008 = gross hotel revenues = 1,716,000

Per night.

but how much of the increase is due to free dining?...
i don't know how many rooms they actually offer with free dining..
i know they limit the number...

and how much does the free dining cost them? in other words, what is the other side of that equation?

it will be interesting to see if next year's free dining is the counter service only plan....and how much that will be worth to people..
