Looking to get a new camera and want to get a few recomendations before just grabbing one. I woud like a point and shoot. Right now i have a 5.0 meg pix kodak. Its really simple to use great BEGINNER camera but time to move on LOL.

Reason being is the shutter is slow. I take the pic and it take a few seconds before the pic is snapped. ALso even when I use indoor flash or on night time if we are inside somewhere and im taking pics aross the room they come out totally darn and yucky!

THanks for any info or suggestions

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a Canon Powershot S3 IS, or if you want to spend a little more for a bigger LCD and a flash hotshoe, a Canon Powershot S5 IS. The S3 is very popular here on the DIS ... we've got our own photo sharing thread!

It's an excellent camera with a great zoom range (36mm to 432mm in 35mm equivalent). It starts up in about a second and shutter lag is minimal. It can take continuous shots at 2.3fps until you fill up an SD card, too; so it's great for action shots.

It's not the best camera for low-light shots, though, due to it's small sensor ... but, with a noise reduction program (like Noiseware) you can still get nice 4x6 prints even at ISO400 (which tends to be grainy/noisy).
