New DCL app update

With the new DCL app update, you have to sign in (even to see countdown). Will we have to sign in on board as well? What about members of the family, kids, that don’t have an account/password? This seems inconvenient.
 
I've read that once you are onboard and on the ship wifi, anyone can use the app. To access the new functionality (seeing your reservations and onboard bookings) when not on a ship do require a login however.
 

I am on the Magic now. Once I was onboard and accessed DCL Wi-Fi, I could see the ship events with no log-in. Viewing my previously booked events and using texting (for the first time) just required entering my birthdate, name, and stateroom number. The app then remembers the information and needs no log-in. My family and I did not need to know our reservation number. Texting for people in the same stateroom is automatic. To text those in other staterooms, you need their multi-digit code.

Thank you for the info :thumbsup2. It is good to know that we can use it without logging in.
 
How are the notifications for texts with the new app?
The notifications are working well on my iPhone — as long as I am on DCL WiFi, I get a notification when I get a new message.

Unfortunately, I am not always able to see the message in the app after seeing the notification. Three times in the past 5 days I have had to reset the app in order to read recent messages and send new messages. I have no trouble seeing events, including my saved events, but something freezes the ability to send and receive messages. It may be happening when I have closed WiFi while in port and then opened it again. (I find that accessing data with my cellular service, which is free for me in port, works very slowly when the DCL WiFi is on.) I haven’t bothered asking the Connect At Sea cast member for help since it’s only a minor nuisance to reset the app. Resetting does erase some or all previous text messages.
