I think I may have just found out what the new show is going to be on DCL! They're holding auditions for the character of Mulan in what is supposedly a new show for their Caribbean itinerary (not like they have any others). Rehearsals are supposed to begin in June, so not long after that the show should be premiering. Tumbling is listed as a plus, so perhaps we can expect some interesting acrobatics in the show.

And for anyone who's interested about how much CM's are paid, this position is listed at $450 (US) a week plus lodging.

We sail the western June 21 - looks like we'll just miss the new show. Too bad as Mulan is one of my DD's favorite characters - she likes those strong females!

We were just on the Magic and did the "Behind the Scenes of the Walt Disney Theater" and the CM said that indeed they were producing a new show, but wouldn't confirm what it was going to be. He said it was first going to debut on the Wonder in October 2003 and then the Magic. He said he's seen a lot of wild rumors on the internet, but wouldn't confirm or deny any of them.

Yipee! I am going to get new menus and a new show... yet another reason to go!

I know, I've read all kinds of rumors and ideas about the new show. While this isn't a confirmation from any kind of DCL official, it does come from an official audition notice posted in Backstage here in NY. It doesn't specifically say what the new show is going to be, but it does call for the character of Mulan and no others for a NEW show. If it was a show with a variety of characters like Disney Dreams, you wouldn't expect an audition for a single character. And it makes sense to hold a single-character audition like this if you're looking for a very specific type of lead actor.

It also wouldn't surprise me if the show premiers in October. Rehearsing a new show is very different from teaching a new cast an old show and should take quite a bit longer than the usual rehearsal period. I just can't imagine it being something else if they're putting such a focus on finding an actress to play Mulan. I guess we'll have to see.

On the 1/4 Magic cruise, Jacqui the Cruise Directors said a new show would come out later in the year. She said they were working on it but would not give any more details. She also said new shows are extremely expensive to put together with new sets, costumes, performers, etc. and that is why it took so long for a new show...but DCL does recognize the need for variety since there are so many return cruisers!!!!

So do you think this will be an addition, or will they be dropping one of the current ones?

Hopefully Mouseketeer will be the one to go...that could easily be moved to a different time of day instead of being a main stage show. We don't even bother to go anymore, and when we used to, people with kids were always leaving early because the little ones seem to get bored with it quickly...I don't think slow-moving trivia is very appealing to them.
I'm sure the one that WON'T go is Disney Dreams :D :D

It would also make sense for this show to premier on the Magic on the October 11th cruise as it would be fresh from dry dock and would be easier to load all the new stage works while in port for an extended amount of time.

I am glad they are working on a new show for the cruise.... I love the movie Mulan too... hope your rumour is correct.

>>^..^<<

I love "Who Wants To Be....", I hope they drop Hercules, I always felt that was a little too cheesy.

I concur. And Mouseketeer should happen more often - like bingo! For people who like playing games that require more skill and knowledge and don't want to spend money on bingo cards! That's actually about the only thing I'm not looking forward to on our first cruise - that we'll only get to play Mouseketeer once!

And I've also seen Aladdin auditions posted, but I believe that was for California Adventure. Anyone know if that's a new show or are they just looking for new cast? I've never been to that park.

Jen

Apparently it's a new show at CA. It will be in the huge theater that used to host the god-awful show about a hip-hop fairy godmother and two little boys...brothers who were constantly fighting with each other till she comes along. It was sort of like a really horrible version of Disney Dreams. That's the only thing I really hated at CA...the Aladdin show looks MUCH better (they had a little blurb about it on ABC at Christmas).

I love Mousekeeter......I guess because I am a big Disney Trivia nut!!! I could see them having it in the Buena Vista Theatre....I think Studio Sea may be too small. Every time we went to Mouseketter it was full!!!...Or, just have it in the afternoons when the WD Theatre is not in use for bingo or Dreams matinee.

We saw the Mulan show in Paris last summer and the show was excellent... A lot of areo-acrebatics.. super show... I highly recommend seeing it.

Yes - Aladdin at California Adventure is excellent. Especially the part where Aladdin and Jasmine fly around on the magic carpet. Yes - they actually fly around on the carpet. The special effects are awsome in the show. I think it is going to be a winner for the park.

About Who Wants To Be A Mousketeer in Studio Sea. Guess what - that is where they tested a version of the show before it went on to the Walt Disney Theatre in the form that it is today. They even gave prizes. But they were post cards, plush toys, pins and all - and some state room credit. Don't remember what the grand prize was - something like $100 in state room credit. It's come a long way from that - bigger prizes and the free cruise.

Hi Jen,
I know friends of mine just auditioned for Epcot stuuf again, but that seems to be an ongoing process down there. Is that 450$ clear by the way? Look for an email from me, I don't want to take this thread of track!
