My oven broke right after Thanksgiving. The new one is on backorder - which we did not find out until the delivery day last week. The naval oranges I always order are sour this year. And now I hear a coastal storm may dump snow in us - meaning we won't see anybody this Christmas (its still just a possibility though).

However, I have 3 great kids who all still live at home. We are all healthy. We have enough food and will have even more on Christmas. I just discovered my oven will sort of work after a long pre-heating time. And we have a wonderful wood stove that can keep it VERY warm in the house.

So, although things might not be what I planned and dreamed of for this Christmas, we will still be OK. We may not have homemade cookies. And we may not see my Mom or sister or my DH's family. We will have each other. It will just be different - a new reality :goodvibes.

But I'm still praying for no snow :rotfl:.

Time to talk to the people you ordered the oven from and see if there is a drop in you can borrow until after holidays. Not your fault and they should have notified you earlier.

I'm joining you in the "no snow" prayer. after last year, I could happily go for a decade or so of no snow. LOL.

Some times new realities are pretty neat in themselves. One Christmas my township experienced a blackout. A drunk driver hit a power generator and every bodies power went out. The cul de sac I live in has about 15 houses, since no one had power and every body was panicking because of 1/2 cooked christms dinners, neighbors were ringing neighbors doors trying to figure out what was going on. That turned into a tradition. For the last 5 years the "moms" in the cul de sac run outside to say "Merry christmas", quick kisses and hugs and some exchange cookies. Right around dinner time you see all these heads pop out of open doors and people yelling Merry christmas back and forth.

I am doing a major remodel (down to studs) of a condo I bought. I ordered and paid for a new stove/oven in August. I just got a phone call that it was in. Thank goodness I had not been even attempting to live there since Sept.

What a great story! I know what you mean about the snow thing - I wouldn't care if I never saw another flake! Last year my DH and I had a Disney trip planned (little getaway from the kids). Our flight was canceled due to snow - and the bigger storm was still on the way! We ended up driving down in very sketchy conditions - but it was a great adventure. Still, I think I'm mentally done with snow :goodvibes.

:scared1: I definately can't do without an oven that long! I will be pushing them hard with that in mind! I hope to at least get a truthful answer soon.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep it up :goodvibes. I'll have to read my own words when I start to feel discouraged ;).

I had no clue there was a problem - fortunately I either stayed with my sister or in my New Orleans condo. Plus my dad's house hasn't sold so I was not completely stranded.

But I had some friends in New Orleans (renters) whose oven had not worked in years. They lived with a toaster oven as everytime they called for a repair the landlord would raise the rent - it was ridiculously low as they had lived there for over 15 years. Now that they finally bought a home they are so enjoying having an oven. I can't believe they lived like that for so many years.
