New car on Disney Visa?

Does anyone know if car dealerships take credit cards?

We're planning on purchasing a new minivan early next year and would love to put it on our Disney Visa to earn the rewards. We have the money set aside to pay the bill off immediately, but I have no idea if dealerships accept credit cards. I'm thinking they might be partial to cash and bank checks. I know its a wild idea, but it would be a great way to earn rewards for Disney.

Thanks :teeth:

We purchased a new car for our daughter, and put a large downpayment on our Disney Visa. Dealership had no problem with using credit card. As a matter of fact I didn't really think of even using it until we were there and they asked how we wanted to pay "Cash, check or credit card?" so I put my checkbook away and got out my CC.

We paid the charge off that month, but it was nice to have earned reward dollars which we used on our WDW trip that followed two months later.

Our Toyota dealer here told us $5,000 was the max. Remember they pay a 2% charge to the cc companies. Ask anyway, I've heard of some people putting the whole car on the cc...make sure you raise your cc limit so you have enough room on thier to charge the purchase.

When we purchased our Toyota they only let us put $5,000 also on a CC. We wanted to even do my DH CC & then do mine, because they are 2 separate accts, but they said no.

I tried to do this with my Chrysler van 4 years ago. I was only allowed to charge $500. The dealers lose too much in fees (2-3%).

I put a used car on my Discover a few years ago (about $5000) with no problem.

Don't even mention the CC till AFTER you negotiate the final price of the car. If they know they will have to eat a 2% fee before negotiation then they will bury that in the final price of the car. I bought a car on my Starwood Preferred Guest American Express last year and loved all the free reward points.

In my experience, larger, new car dealerships or more apt to do this than a "mom and pop" organization. Your best bet is just to call and ask without giving your name. Then as previously posted, negotiate the best deal possible and don't ask about using the card until you're at the end of the transaction. Also, some dealers will tell you they take credit cards and then try to tack on an extra charge to cover their costs -- so make sure you look at the fine print. One last thing, you can only earn $750 reward dollars in a "calendar" year so check your balance to see how close you are to make sure you'll even be able to earn rewards for the vehicle purchase. Good Luck!

Yeah if you have already charged 75,000 then you wouldn't get any reward dollars :):p

I wish I could say I learned first-hand but unfortunately -- that's not the case (LOL) !!!

We put our minivan on our AMEX...never thought to put it on the Visa though. If we could have used our Disney Visa then I'll be sad because we could have missed out :( We did get lots of perks from AMEX in regards to travel though. :)
