DSIL got tired of paying yearly rentals on their campsite. They bought the TT new in 2004 and didn't even know how to close the bump-outs. The instructions/new owner packet was still sealed in the drawer. They've never owned a tow vehicle - the dealer delivered & set it up for them - so when we got serious about camper shopping DSIL offered to sign it over if DH would drive the 3 hrs into the mountains to get it and bring it home. Needless to say, he barely stopped to grab the truck keys and we now own a new to us 39ft Prowler. It's a little bigger than we would have bought if we'd been buying one but hey, the price was right. :cool1:

So... the comfort camper newbies have two weeks off and are heading west to Wisconsin along I-80 (the seemingly endless PA/OH/IN/IL/WI turnpikes) for the american girl sale and a week in wisconsin dells. Originally I'd hoped to take I-70 west so we could stop at Indianna Beach and the Albanese Candy Factory Store but I'm worried about the hills between here & there taking that route so it looks like we'll be paying tolls and driving out of the way.

I haven't a clue about roads to avoid or campgrounds west of the Shenandoah's. I know I don't want to do the Chicago Skyway or that I80 bridge into the city so we'll have to detour somewhere around that. There always seems to be horrible construction around there and I can't imagine my bridge fears with one lane of traffic if it's windy or storming pulling the behemoth that is our new TT.

I'd love some ideas/advice about where to stay/what not to miss along the way. This has to be a budget trip of sorts b/c DH stopped working in May under doctors' orders but it doesn't have to be dirt cheap either.

I was thinking maybe we'd stop in Sandusky and check out the Kalahari's new Safari park. Maybe stay a night there somewhere, though since we'll have the dogs along, sadly the Kalahari itself isn't an option for overnight. We wouldn't do Cedar Point but it might be nice to see the area. I've never been further off the highway than the Kalahari and DH has never been that way at all.

We're looking at American World in the Dells b/c it comes with free Mount Olympus passes for the length of stay and, while it doesn't look like the best campground in the area, it is cheap. Has anyone been there recently by chance?

I'm sure you guys know more than I do. What route would you take and Where would you stop/stay/visit/avoid along the way???
