I need a new camera for my upcoming trip. I am looking for something automatic that takes great low light photos for night time. Nothing too expensive or high tech. Just a simple ole point and shoot. I got a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS25 but the pics are very very grainy and just really poor quality on auto setting. So disappointed. I have no experience with manually setting cameras so I need something easy.

Thanks

I just bought the canon s110 from Amazon. It's last years model so it's priced a little lower. I've had it about a month and am very happy with it. Great little point and shoot.

I used to spend lots of $ every year on digital cameras. Now a days, many smart phone camera's are so refined/take great pics that they do an exceptional job. SOooo, now, I take pics with my Samsung S5 and they as I take the pics, they automtically upload to Drop Box and Microsoft One Drive. I also have a very large capacity external memory card on the S5. I go to WDW often and having camera/phone all in one does the deed for me.

I know you asked about point and shoot but after having nothing but point and shoots my whole life there is a huge difference in picture quality with a dslr camera as well as processing time. My husband bought me a canon t5 bundle from sams club as an early Christmas gift for our trip that just ended on the 23rd. I got the best pictures that I have ever gotten of all the Christmas lights, parades and fireworks. I only had about 2 weeks to play with it before our trip so I only used it in the auto, no flash and sports modes. A very easy camera to use and it is made for beginners. You can get great pictures if you only ever use those three modes I mentioned above. Previously I had a point and shoot Kodak that was very frustrating as it was slow to process, thus I missed out on many pictures because of it. I had put off getting a dslr for years because of the cost and I thought it would be a pain to carry around vs a small lightweight point and shoot but the picture quality I got with it made it so worth carrying it as well as the extra lens in the parks. My next purchase will be a different lens that can do the job of both of my current lenses.

The SONY RX100 is an excellent choice and can be found for 300-325.

FOr much less the SONY WX80 is a solid choice.

Have you tried setting it to "P" for program instead of auto? Then you can change the settings manually. If the ISO is on autoISO, it tends to float up too high making the photos grainy. If you are on Program mode, you can set the ISO to 400, 800 or whatever the situation calls for. 400 is a good place to start for all purpose.

We have a lot of panasonic lumixes in our family. I used a Lumix lx5 (as backup to my dslr), my kids all have the Lx7 and are very happy with that model.

The Sony rx100 would be a great buy if you could find it around $325. That is quite a price drop from when it was released.

I got the Sony RX100 and it has terrible zoom quality. Only 3.7X zoom. Should have paid attention to that I guess.

I have a Canon Powershot SX260 HS that takes great low light shots.

I adored the SX230 and when mine finally went to that camera place in the sky I went up to this version.

My sister keeps trying to talk me into getting a DSLR but dang, those things are heavy and I like something small that can go in my purse or a cargo shorts pocket easily.

The zoom is quality. It just is not as long as you would like. Everything has some tradeoffs and long zooms are usually lower photo quality and less light.

The RX100 has the highest quality of any P&S. Although version 3 is even better but more expensive...
