My DH has been looking at this camera to replace my digital camera I already have (Sony Cybershot). The name is Kodak Z1012IS Easyshare 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera. Anybody know anything about it? Thanks in advance.

Let me turn the question back to you or your DH. What excites him about this camera? What features attracted him to this camera. Does it fit him well?

don't know specifically about that model but Canon and Panasonic both have better quality, higher rated "super zoom" type cameras that are similar in price, e.g. Canon S5 or Panasonic FZ18, etc. you might want to look at comparisons at www.dpreview.com before you buy

He has a friend who owns this camera (7 mega pixel model), and he was able to see some of his pictures and thought they were beautiful. So he started from there and began to research it more. The price is definitely a factor as well. I will ask him about anything else he likes about it.

Thanks, I'll pass this along to my DH as well.:thumbsup2

Don't forget that his friend might just be a good photographer. A good photograph has much more to do with technique, framing, creativity, etc. than it does with the equipment. The key is understanding the capabilities and limitations of your equipment and being able to use that to make good shots.

I am a very amateur photographer that owns a Kodak Easyshare Z740. I agree that it takes really nice pictures outside, but have never been please with the quality of pictures it takes inside or any other low light situation. I have played with the settings, etc. but never get a decent picture inside. I bought this camera to replace a Nikon Coolpix my daughter spilled soda on. There is no comparison between the two. Although I am happy with outside pictures I can get with the Kodak, it just isn't reliable enough to get "the shot". I just bought a Nikon D40 and can't wait for it to get here. I think your DH should keep looking.

I've seen a lot of good things about this cam, and especially the coming 1015 too. You can look on Amazon for user reviews, or there are a few new users on dpreview Kodak forums. Ask Kodak users and search the net for reviews. There aren't many yet since they're so new, but there are a couple.

I just recommended the 1012, along with the dock, to my kids' school to buy as the school camera. It was in budget, is fairly good in indoor light (for a point and shoot) has manual controls, and is easy for all teachers and PTO members to just pick up and use without fuss. The ease of use cannot be discounted as a feature. You can't get the shot if you're fiddling with menus. Also, using with the dock ensures it will be kept in one spot and always be charged.

I have an older Z7590 that is a fantastic camera. Some Kodaks are not so great, and some are excellent. I think the 1012 and 1015 are good ones.
