New building at AK - Dinoland - what is it?

Just returned from a fantastic trip to WDW and saw that there's a new building going up in Dinoland on the way to Asia. Anyone know what it's gonna be?

With any luck they are building a vomitorium. Coulda used it when i first set my eyes on Dinoland. It is one of the biggest theming blunders in Disney theme park history, imo. What an eyesore!

No. That is being built in Asia. The construction in Dinoland is for the new Finding Nemo Musical.

And Dino-land is AK's Toontown and fits right in with the theaming of that area.

I don't want to sound like a "pixie duster" or something but I have never been as anti-Chester & Hesters as many others. I actually like Primeval Whirl. I find it fun. Is it the best themed area in the world? No. Was it built to be cheesy? Yes.

Which used to be Tarzan Rocks. Except now they are closing the building in completley.

Well, I sure don't begrudge anyone their fun, I just think that Disney blighted an otherwise beautiful park by loading up on the dairy in Dinoland. I mean, it IS possible to have a fun attraction AND be thematically consistent. While I haven't had the opportunity to ride EE, it seems to have the potential for fun and it is aesthetically and thematically pleasing (at least outwardly).

An earlier poster mentioned that Dinoland is AK's Toontown. That may be my big problem with it.... Toontown doesn't belong in AK!!!

But I think Chester & Hester's deal is cut off enough from the animal portion of the park so as not to impinge on that theme. I don't think there's anything wronf with putting in a "kiddie" area in DAK.

I think it's great that they put in a place where the little kiddies can go and get heat exhaustion because they are standing on black top that heats up to about 350 degrees!!
Then have no where to get something to drink so the kids don't pass out...... that way the kiddies can get really crabby right from the start of the day!!
Then make them walk the extremely narrow and jammed with people pathway to Expedition. Only to wait more in the HOT SUN.

AK is one of the poorest designs of a park I have seen..... IMHO!
It was not designed to hold a lot of people..... so why do they complain when it is not as busy as the other parks. Then put in a ride like EE.... that everyone wants to see.... yet nothing to do or see along the way.

sorry...... I am a fan of AK.... but this last trip was ridiculous trying to get to EE. And when we went over to ride Primevil Whirl (which by the way, we LOVE)...... we about melted!!!! No shade anywhere near there!!!

So.... to answer your question..... Nemo, indoor.... YEA, air-conditioned!! Let's hope they think about making the path wider and other things to look at or do!!!

Don't misunderstand me....I completely agree that there should be a place for the little ones to have a blast. I just don't think that place needs to be so garishly themed. Believe it or not, kids can find the fun in a place even if it isn't brightly colored like a cartoon. IMO, the kids spot shouldn't be 'cut off' from the animal portion...it should most definitely be included. Rather than impinge on the theme it should compliment it.....

I know kids love the animal parts. I have two small ones who love animals. But they also enjoy the Triceratops and bright colors. There's no reason not to have an area thats brightly colored like a cartoon. Kids like that carnival atmosphere and "garishness."

One thing we must all remember is that AK is still a fairly new park when compared to the others. If you guys remember MGM was small and actually still is small. So the size shouldnt even be considred when deciding whether the park is good or not. But over the past few years Disney has seriously expanded on that park. Plus I like Dino land. I think its kind of funny to have something stupid and gaudy like that. It kind of breaks up the serious animal theme and throws something with humor into the mix. Plus it was built to be cheesey. I dont know why people have a problem with it. Give Disney sometime to expand.

Hey, I like PW too. It is "fun". But lots of things in lots of parks are fun. Bottom line is they set the bar lower for the area. As a consequence of them hitting that bar, its still fun, but more people are going to hate it, and even many who like it realize its not what should have been done.

That's the real point of contention.

1- Achieving the desired level of cheesiness does not mean cheesy was the right way to go.

2- The product Disney offered was priced as complete on day one. Therefore they are subject to criticism for not providing full value from day one. Certainly that's how most of the public views the situation when they are making their spending decisions. The whole idea of opening these parks small is a practice that has to be seriously questioned, given the "spotty" results.

Not necessarily. For the most part yes, but if there is a small "kiddie" area I don't have a problem with that.

Actually that new building is not new at all. It was the Theatre in the Wild Theatre where they did have the Tarzan Rocks show. They are enclosing the theatre to make it a new Finding Nemo show. So the building is not a new building but rather a building being re-vamped.

4) Ball rolling game
5) Fill the gas pump up game
6) Sledgehammer game

2/6 or 33% of the offerings are not for kiddies. Primeval Whirl has the tallest height restriction at WDW - equal to Rocknroller Coaster and the Sledgehammer game requires the player to hoist a big heavy hammer. And, 4/6 or 67% of the offerings require an additional fee.

There's no playground, no water features, nothing that really screams "this is a kiddie area" other than Triceratop Spin.

Thank you all aboard. That is what I have been thinking as I read this thread. If you take away Triceratops there really is nothing for the kids. I really didn't like that they put the games in there either -- It really seemed like get the kids over here and then force the parents to pay for the games because there nothing for the kids to do. Of course there is the Dig Site which is really quite wonderful and relaxing for the parents.

I must say however that the theming doesn't bother me, just the gaming area. I also like the way they decorate for Christmas -- how tacky can you get?
