We just got back from four wonderful days at WDW. While there, we toured the BLT rooms at SSR. They are classy, rich in color tones and furniture selection, LARGE, and just plain gorgeous. We own at AKV and were "wowed" by those models. THESE beat those by a mile. The furnishings are top notch and the rooms are so well done. FWIW, the LR in the 1BR feels just huge. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people go on and on about not liking decor. Who cares about decor? It's a place to stay! Immerse yourself in the theme of something you might not choose for your own home!! Personally, I LOVE the decor. BTW, I also love the decor of AKV, GF, Poly....and those are ALL very different! We can't wait to stay there!!! For those who say CR/BLT lacks a theme, it was an original WDW resort. It is an icon. For those of us who have been staying there since the early 70's it VERY MUCH has a theme....Walt's dream! There's no place quite like it on property for me! The kids (us too) were so excited about the idea of being so close to the MK!.....:cloud9: Questions??????????

I was at the last Wed Yankee home game a couple of weeks ago and I remember thinking, "This is the WORST hot-dog I have ever eaten." At that moment I remember immediately saying to myself, "Doesn't matter what you think. This is THE standard by which ALL other hot-dogs are judged. A dog at Yankee Stadium IS the standard."

The Contemporary is very much the same way. It IS the standard at WDW. Doesn't matter whether one particularly likes it or not. ;)

I respectfully disagree that is your opinion, I personally think they are hideous and would never stay there. I like AKV bought there and added on there even when I had the opourtunity to add on at BLt instead. I will never get the craze over BLT but to each is own. I know what I like and so do others and if I am going to stay someplace for a week I need to be able to sit in the room without getting dizzy or a migraine from the decor.

Happy to hear that you love them! I do have questions if perhaps you recall, what is that just inside the front door opposite the bathroom? Looks like a closet and...is that another closet as well? Also, did you see any drawings or talk to anyone about what the "interactive children's waterplay area" might be like?

So glad that you had such a good time, thanks!

I guess I'm going to have to stick with my initial impression. I don't like AKV either so that pretty much tells us our tastes differ considerably. I'm more a VWL kind of gal. Different strokes and all that.

I do think that the person who decided that initial video was a good way to introduce BLT to the public should rethink their career path. The rooms looked horrible, the lighting was horrible, it was just not good.

I'm willing to believe that these models are better "in person" and we'll hopefully get a look at them this spring. I'm always happy to be wrong and will try to keep an open mind.

Thanks for your input.:thumbsup2

So, I guess you added on!?! Congratulations! Going to view the models will be on my list of things to do in November when we're down there. I think it would be fun to stay there. I am not planning to buy.

I did get the mailer sent out about BLT. Looking at those photos, it looks first class. The reason the living room probably feels bigger is that there is no balcony off of the living room. Maybe square footage was added as a result. I wonder when I can ressie at 7 mos? :goodvibes

Have you ever seen the rooms in person? They are sleek and soothing...there is nothing in them at all that would make you dizzy, or get a migraine. Unlike you, I DO understand the craze over ALL the resorts. They all offer something different and unique. I also suspect that the "craze" over BLT has everything to do with proximity to MK and the love that many have for the CR (when there were only 2 onsite resorts to choose from).....over 30yrs. of memories for us. :thumbsup2

fadedgirl Perhaps you are talking about the door to the studio? The door opposite the initial bathroom is the door to the studio portion, I believe. I did not ask about the water play area...I wish I would have remembered to!

bobbiwoz Hi! We did add on the day after the announcement. The models just confirmed our purchase. I hope you get to stay at BLT sometime....and we hope to get to VWL as well! :)

Opinions are not "wrong" and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone has different criteria for what is valuable to them - its another opinion - and for some people that is decor. People have emotional responses to color - in particular. Simple things like ceiling height and room proportion can create a feeling of comfort or uncomfort in a room. And not everyone is going to react the same.

It would be nice that we could recognize and respect differences of opinion - even when that difference of opinion is critical of our beloved "home resort."

Or as the BCV owners started to say "fine, you don't have to like it - more room for ME."

1. Not everyone is planning on staying in a 1-bedroom villa. Due to the point cost, many people will have to go for a studio (which are SMALLER than rooms at Caribbean Beach). And I disagree that the rooms look classy/gorgeous, especially in comparison to the current Contemporary.

2. People don't go on and on about not liking the decor. This is a discussion board, everyone has an equal right to express their opinion. Just because you like the decor, doesn't make everyone who disagrees with you wrong.

3. Room decor can make a huge difference during a stay. Honestly, I hated the room decor at WL after touring a room, enough to make us never stay there. If you don't like your surroundings, your vacation will suffer.

4. Bay Lake Tower will never be "an original WDW resort" or "an icon", like the original Contemporary (I think that was your point). If anything, BLT detracts from the striking architecture of the A-frame tower because it's so tall yet uninspired.

And FYI, I don't despise BLT in every way. There are some things that annoy me about it (including room decor), but of all DVC resorts it is my second favorite behind Beach Club. But I don't think you have the right to say your opinion is correct and everyone else is just wrong.

i'm glad you liked the decor! I've heard nothing but bad so its refreshing to hear otherwise. I'd like to check the rooms out myself when I'm there next!

Opinions are not "wrong" and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As my old English professor would say: You are completely entitled to your opinion, as long as you recognize that my opinion is the right one. :rotfl:

With that said - yes, different opinions for different people. We bought BLT sight unseen and then viewed the models this past weekend. We were neutral to the rooms, but wanted the location.

What I think the OP is trying to say is that the rooms, in person, are much much better than we thought. We left debating about whether we should add MORE points. They are spacious, comfortable, have a natural flow to them, and actually are very homey even for a non-contemporary family like us.

To each their own as others have said, but I will warn those of you that really dislike the rooms - you may be in for a surprise when you see them in person. They really are quite impressive. And the studio bathroom/nook layout makes a LOT more sense when you see it. I think they've found the DVC room structure for the next 3-4 locations - its that good.

No need to take the title of my thread so personally. The "you are so wrong" was meant as tongue and cheek.....mainly in response to the numerous "I'd never want to stay there" threads. If you read my entries, I continuously talk about recognizing the love for ALL the DVC resorts! :thumbsup2

Room size is very relative. I've been in huge rooms that feel cramped, and small rooms that feel large. Its about flow, layout, furniture choice, etc. The structure of the BLT studios is such that the room does not feel small - it actually felt quite a bit larger than a lot AKV studio.

GEESH!!!!!!!!!!! I never said "I was correct and everyone else was wrong"! I said "It's not 70's cheesy" as I've read here on this board. Please take it down a notch!!! Why such defensiveness? You are perhaps responding to my tongue and cheek title. The post reflects my OPINION about the models we toured. I cannot voice that??

Ah, the white plastic look (there are other colors there as well); some like it, some don't. I don't know that I would refer to it as '70s Cheesy' but the color combination isn't something that I would have picked. I don't personally like it but I do like the new layouts for the studios. I do like the idea of being able to have the Magic Kingdom view to watch the fireworks. Being on the monorail is not a big thing to me but I understand that it is for others. As long as you like it, then it is great for you but don't insist that others like it too (likewise, if you don't like it, don't insist that others won't like it as well).

Its hard to get intent from the internet. If you don't want to offend people - you might want to hint you are joking.

I'm glad you like the BLT rooms - my husband does as well. I don't like pop modern. I like modern, but not the 'hey, let's rip off Warhol" style of modern - I love the sleek lines, but prefer it in neutral colors. However, its still better than that ugly couch at BCVs....;)

I never said you can't voice your opinion. You like the decor, and I don't. Our opinions are allowed to coexist. But when you say "Who cares about decor?" or "For the life of me, I can't understand why people go on and on about not liking the decor", I'm allowed to address these points because your tone begins to attack those who disagree with you.

And if you don't want people to respond to the thread title, perhaps you should:
a) choose a different thread title
b) indicate that you aren't totally serious, perhaps with a smiley face (as you used a rolling eyes smiley in response to me ;) ).

All I can say is that the decor is enough to make run out of that place, it looks like everything came from IKEA. We can not afford to buy into a place that we don't just absolutly love, so I have to disagree on the, who cares what it looks like. But I am glad you like it, I think the biggest turn off for me is being that close to the park with the Monorail, and mass traffic. Also the fact that you can set in a bath tub and watch the fireworks. That is too tacky for me, I am not secure enough with myself to get undressed and get in a bath tub in front of an open window. But to each is on.
