new blog: The Rapid Fill Mug program debuts at Walt Disney World

It sounds like this will work. It is a pity that Disney had to go to such lengths to keep people from cheating the system.
I'll have to test this when I stay at All Stars in October.

For many years, Disney sold refillable mugs that were marketed as "good forever" mugs.

Given the strong feelings about this issue, I'm expecting a class action to be filed any day.:rolleyes1

Maybe a pre jcb blog and post blog and video blog this could be big for you mr burgin. This could be your little black glove like the lawyers who defend oj. Sounds like Disney in for some smokey mountain Tennessee justice.

Serously people please get over it they will do this no matter what. No matter if they sold mugs that said good for life that dose not matter.

Everyone upset should be upset with every guest who ever brough their mug on more then one trip. Instead of buying a new one you have no ought to be mad at Disney they had no choice to do this. You all forced your hand by abusing the system.

I don't me to offend anyone if you never reused your mug then this dose not apply to you it just showing you who to be mad at.

Plus you go against chip and dale this is what you get maybe next time you say they are a list characters and not filler characters.:)

I've never been one to take a mug back on future trips, but I agree that it's a shame that Disney has to do this.

So, one has to purchase a mug to get soda? You can't just purchase a regular cup? We have never bought mugs due to the price and the fact that we are only at the resorts at breakfast and in the evening.

They were last I knew still offering "single serving" cups at a lower price. During testing, it allowed up to 4 fills within an hour.

On the "forever" mugs, it almost has mythological status...it appears that CMs told guests back then they could bring them back on future trips, but there is little evidence that there was any official language on it. Several of us have been looking for it - I think even Shaun was trying to track it down.

At least we can purchase paper cups. But, with the price increase, we will probably drink mostly water!

Yes, you can purchase regular cups and are not forced to use the new mugs. :thumbsup2

Seems rather wasteful to me that you have to buy a new mug everytime that you go. But I am in Orlando more often than most for conferences and the like. I still vote for a refill station in the hotel room. :thumbsup2

But at least the option to just buy a cup for your meal is still there. Oh well I need to drink more water anyway.

I've never been one to bring back old mugs. However, I'm not crazy about this. The way they are handling this with the timing out of refills really makes Disney look like they are nickel and diming. Although Disney is a business, the making money part of it was never put in the forefront of the guest's view. When I see this...the first thing I think of is how I'm not a guest...but a customer who they need they are trying to get as much money out of as possible. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware Disney has always been trying to get as much money from me as possible...but it was never put in the spotlight like it is now!

I don't drink pop so this doesn't really effect me, but I have never understood the big deal with the mugs. They are only good at the resort and you have to lug them to a drink station to get your 16? 18? ounce refill? It's not like the drink stations are all over the resort, there is one, maybe two...but whatever. I think it's funny that Disney is correcting the massive pop theft issue, which is going to recoup them soooooooooo much money, but at the same time they are doing this they raised the drinks prices.

I find it interesting how everyone who makes the claim says they were told by a a cast member this, but how many times do you hear or read about people saying that when they talk to one cast member they get one answer and then they talk to another and get a different answer. One podcast I listen to has a phrase they like to say that I will clean up a bit for the Dis "Front of the Line Cast Members know Crap".

Someone on another thread said that they still had some "forever" mugs, and that a couple of them have language on them stating it. They are going to get pics of them this weekend and upload.

I thought the mugs were only good for the year you visited. However the design always stayed the same so how could that policy be enforced? We went in Feb and returned in may, with our mugs. I really thought they were good during the year of your trip.

Nope. Aside from the early "forever" mugs, they were only good at the resort you purchased them at for the length of your stay...it should say that right on the mug, actually. Lack of changing designs was just a cost thing, not an enforcement thing - especially since they never really enforced it anyways.

The NEW change is that they are good at ANY resort, which solves issues with the old language and split stays. However, through what I believe is an oddity of using the same design, the old language still appears on the new mugs.
