Our current grill is almost 30 years old and although it's old, it still works fairly well. DH rather than clean it again thinks it might be time to just replace it. He has been reading about the infrared type and thinks they sound like they might work better than the regular gas grill type. It sounds like they cook faster and have almost no flare-ups.

Can anyone who already owns one of the infrared type give me their thoughts and opinions on how happy they are they bought it or regrets on buying that type???

We have one and really like it. It does cook a little faster and it seems like the food doesn't dry out as fast.

We have one and it is alright. As time has gone on I think it flares up a little bit, but nothing like the one we had before. I too think meats don't get dry as fast on it.

I have a propane grill with 3 regular burners (?) and one infared...we've had it for about 5 years but have never tried the infared! LOL! I suppose we should try it out...

For those of you who have one, would you say they have the same flame broiled taste as a regular gas grill?? I DON'T like the flavor of broiled meat in the oven at all.

We went and looked at grills yesterday at Menard's and were surprised to see that they only had 1 infrared type grill and 9-10 models of regular gas grills. Lowe's makes it sound like the infrared kind are taking over from the regular gas grills. Might just have to limp along a while longer with the 30 year old one!! I looks like it has been through a couple of wars but does still work!

The grates on those infrared grills made by Charbroil are really tough to clean. Go to Amazon and read the reviews. That is the number 1 complaint of those grates.

we have some very good friends that have one.. he loves it, she hates it :rotfl2:

Several years ago we bought basically an outdoor kitchen set up from Sears. It's three pieces with a stone looking front and has a refridgerator with work space on top, a griddle that has a door on the bottom for the gas tank. and the center piece is a grill with three regular burners, an infared burner for steaks with a thick iron grill, and a infared burner at the back for rotissery cooking. I love the thing. I put chickens on the rotissery light the back burner and walk away. Two hours later you have the best tasting chicken ever. Steaks cook faster but also hotter so the meat is seered and holds the juices much better. What I really love is you have so many options for cooking on it. Lately we have been doing mostly chicken because you take the racks out and put the disposable foil pans at the bottom to catch the drippings from the chicken. Makes cooking so much easier to clean up from.

I would never not have a infared burner on my grill anymore because we love it.

I do not have an infrared grill but I do have one of the charbroil infrared deep fryers and I like it a lot. We cooked a turkey it in and just as fast/moist as a regular oil fryer without the mess/cost of oil/fire hazards.

My gas grill works fine but if it died I would consider an infrared grill.

We are on our 2nd infrared grill from CharBroil. I totally agree that the grates are tough to clean and tend to fall apart after a year or so of hard use. We use ours at least 4x a week all year long and they do cook great. I have to say that the one we have now doesn't seem to get as hot as the first one we had. We've done everything the manual says to do, but it still won't heat to the extreme. We still really like it - just wish it was easier to clean and stood up longer to hard use.

I have the Charbroil and I hate the grates and trying to keep it clean. Since I do the BBQ and not my DH, I would just rather cook inside. I keep hoping it will fall apart and I would have to get one easier to clean.

I just had to comment on your old grill - 30 years!! Amazing! I can't get one to last more than 5 years.

I love my Charbroil grill, the grates are hard to clean but I worked in the food industry and our grills had to be like new after each day so I'm used to the cleaning. I love the taste of the food coming off our grill.
