New attractions and rides 2014

I understand but when will they announce anything at DHS then? Did they announce Disney springs during a certain time in the calendar that one just kind of seemed random to me.

Which announcement at downtown?
The mothballing five years ago or the rip apart?

My stance is I expect no announcement anytime soon on anything Star Wars other than movie updates and little chotskies here or there.

We are so guilty of doing this: assuming that big announcements are on the way...and whipping up free PR that suits laugh about when the focus is not anywhere near "what do we build that people can ride" next...

Show me the money, baby

So maybe you will be pleasantly surprised when they make an announcement :) And maybe you will be not so grumpy and rude on these boards once an announcement is made for something new that you find suitable, or will you find nothing suitable:wizard:

Last year when tom staggs announced Disney spring the whole new concept. The images were leaked a few days earlier but prior to that there wasn't to much rumors or anything about a whole new DTD. I don't remember if that was during a end or start of quarter either. I also think we probably won't see any Star Wars this year but if they were to do it I feel it would be good to announce at the anniversary.

I don't know how early the exact idea for Disney Springs came out, but the idea of a DTD make-over was out there for a while before it was officially announced as Disney Springs. People knew something was coming but they didn't know what. Guess that gave Disney time to perfect the plans :thumbsup2

I would love announcements... And further love a sense of urgency to produce. They do occasionally announce... But aren't that dedicated to the task it seems.

My grumpiness is a counter to all the sugar coated PR that is thrown back. It's a counterbalance. Newton tells us that there must be a counter balance to achieve equilibrium... And that is the natural state.

And anyone who doesn't laude Disney... Eventually...is slapped as rude here. I certainly am at times...but only in that I want good counter arguments... Not psych 101 back. Face to face I'm about the malt pleasant person you can find... And I'm a huge fan of Disney parks. But I question them and ask for explanation... And you can't see the look on my face...so I'm "rude". I change my opinions all the time when I'm presented with rational thought...it's happened 100s of
Times here. But name calling isn't really an intelligent response.

Blunt can just be hard truth (or reasonable opinion)...how you say it isn't that big of a deal. This only increases with everyday...sometimes the cake is still the cake...it doesn't matter if you skip the Minnie Mouse frosting on top.

In that case... They fulfilled their duty to the customers...which is corrective action.

But they kinda caused the problem to be corrected, didnt they?

Alot of their problems at PI were labor related...there are thousands of CMs that can attest to that.
When you charge alot for drinks... Tips are good. And that means some of the kids make alot more than minimum...and that is dangerous.

They've done similar things with restaurants over the years too...in regard to limiting wages and balancing what management makes as compared to what the juicers at character meals make...

It's like Fahrenheit 451 when it comes to that...very touchy subject.

Just a side note

Must have been a great place to bar tend. I know I emptied my wallet there.
I would like to know the real reason for PI closing-- Probably a combination of all the hypothesis's's's. I do remember that every time I went to AC, the same people were sitting in even the same chairs, kind of like it was being occupied. I bet they didn't spend the money the "tourists" did.

All the things stated by Disney and "common knowledge" things known on the island. I've had probably a half a dozen different people - several randomly encountered working outside wdw - who described the labor struggles. And that was encountered anecdotally without any effort.
But many other things. For all the whining and complaining about adventures club...it had hardly any space inside...and had a core clientele of "just water" cast memebers who sat there after having "wholesome" fun for 4 hours or loading up on a six pack of corona from the Hess station next to casting.

The business was sporadic...periods of madhouse followed by months of empty. But such is life in an expensive tourist bar cluster.

I also think that nobody other than Michael Eisner saw an intrinsic value in having a wide range of adult entertainment as an advantage. It became a straight number game...

He was right... Officially. TWDC is not nearly as strong today if not for his concentration on adult offerings...particularly in movies, parks and resorts, the acquisition of espn through Capitol cities, etc.

Current management trend is to draw backwards to things that HAVE to be traced back to selling toys to kids in stores and giftshops... Which is immediate quick profit gratification. Bad idea.

Waiting for any big announcements, photos and plans of upcoming movies (star wars, etc),new Pandora, and rides at the big D23 event in August in Anaheim!:yay:

D23 is every other year. So, you have to wait until August 2015. Maybe by then they'll be ready to announce Star Wars attractions.

I could see that as a potential announcement for Star Wars. It seems less and less likely it will be this year.

Re: the Pleasure Island stuff - I'm one who loved Adventurer's Club, and spent at least one evening there a year, and bought plenty of Kungalooshes when I was there. I find it incredibly unfortunate that PI has sat empty for so many years now. If they didn't know what they wanted to do, I'm at a loss as to why they didn't let stuff stay open until they had a plan for change. Seems dumb.

Secondly - this is not the first time I've heard people say that food and bev managers at WDW are resentful of wait staff getting so much in tips that they out-earn management. And you know what I have to say to that? Disney should abolish tipping, and pay their wait staff a salary. It would also help resolve the issues of overseas guests who don't understand tipping in the US leaving nothing.

Thirdly, I don't think we'll hear much from Disney on new attractions this year. They may try to delay the Mine Train's official grand "PR" opening to coincide with USF HP land, but that would mean leaving it in soft open state until summer. (Of course it's taken them years to build it, so what's a couple more months?) I don't see them doing anything to draw attention from Universal's big HP online announcement shindig on the 23rd of January.

Honestly I don't think WDW is going to get much done this year other than try to right the listing MyMagic+ ship.

The most eloquent and spot-on description of MyMagic+ status and its impact to date!!!
