I am new at doing the fast passes. What do you do? If you get to the park at rope drop, do you wait and get your 1st fast pass at 10am, 2nd - 11am, 3rd 12pm-because the line should be short as the park opens or do you start as soon as you can??? Can you tell me what worked for you?

Depends on the park. At MK we can do SpaceMtn, Buzz and the People mover without a FP+ so we'll get them for SplashMtn, Haunted Mansion and something else starting around 9:15, that gives us an hour or so before we have to finish our 'walk-ons'. At DHS we walk on Toy Story and have Past Passes for ToT, Star Tours and GMR, again starting at 9:15. At Epcot we walk on Soarin' with a FP+ for TT and Spaceship Earth at 9:15, Mission Space is usually a walk on even later. At AK we walk on the Safari with a FP+ for EE as early as possible.

You'll get different answers from people based on their touring strategy and if they plan to try for additional FP. Obviously the earlier you schedule them and use them, the earlier you can try to schedule additional ones. At MK, this can be semi advantageous because so many rides have FP available, however, you are most likely not going to get top tier ride FP as additional ones on a regular basis bc most of those will already be gone.

A lot of people have made an argument for starting around 10:30/11 and I can see the value in that. We always do midday breaks so sometimes we don't schedule ours until we return to the parks in the afternoon.

We start as soon as we can if we'll be at RD. The 9-10 FPP doesn't get used until almost 10 then we ride other things using SB line until almost 11 when the 10-11 FPP expires. We usually use the 11-12 FPP next so we can book a 4th FPP for when we return in the afternoon. We then use SB lines until it's "too crowded" for us and we take a break from the park and return later.

We do an AM park for RD and sometimes AM EMH, midday pool break and then head to our PM park with FP+. They usually start at 5 pm. We never wait more than 20 minutes for any ride and do headliners multiple times. We never got additional FP+ on our last trip since we had to wait in a kiosk line. Didn't seem beneficial to wait in a line so we didn't have to wait in a line later.

We book our first fastpass about an hour after rope drop so we can get in 3 fastpasses before lunch.
That allows us to get in a few rides before we use the first fastpass (near the end of the window time).
We use the MDE App to find nearby rides with a short wait times to do between fastpass rides.
While waiting to be seated for lunch, we book another fastpass for the evening.
We take an afternoon break before heading back to a park in the evening.
As soon as you scan your 4th fastpass at an attraction, you can book another one while waiting in line.

MK Example with a Rope Drop of 8 AM:
  • Attempt Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise & Haunted Mansion
  • FP #1 9AM-10AM: Peter Pan
  • Attempt Mickey's PhilharMagic
  • FP #2 10AM-11AM: Seven Dwarf Mine Train
  • Attempt Winnie the Pooh or Little Mermaid
  • FP #3 11AM-12AM: Buzz Lightyear
  • Attempt Monsters Inc Laugh Floor
  • Lunch @12:30
