New AP holder questions

I bought my first AP (Preferred) at Universal last week. I am planning on returning to Orlando in late Oct, early Dec, and next April/May. I will be spending most of my time at WDW, but am considering spending a couple of nights at Universal at the beginning of each trip just for the front of the line pass and to be able to get into the parks early. Where do you find the room discounts for AP holders? How much are they usually for those times of the year? What is the easiest way to make the transfers from the airport to Universal, then to WDW a few days later with luggage? Thanks!
