This is a great board! I have so much to learn before my trip in Jan.

I have so many questions and I don't know where to start. Let's see, how about these questions.

1- is Jan a good time to go? I wish we could go sooner but we can't.

2- what are the must see and do? I have two rather young girls.

3- what can be missed the first time?

We were there the third week of January last year and it was great. low crowds and beautiful weather.

If your girls like the princesses then make sure you have lunch at Ariel's grotto. The food is good and the princesses come to each table, sign autograph books and pose for pictures.

You didn't say how old your girls are, but my dd who was 5 and 1/2 loved renting a stroller, even tho we don't own one and she hasn't used one in years. It saved her from walking so much. (I got the disney visa before we went and got free stroller rental each day)

Have a great trip

January (after New Year's weekend) is a great time to go as far as crowds go. (Except for Martin Luther King weekend, when the crowds wll pick up a bit.) Depending on when you are there, you *might* still be able to experience Haunted Mansion Holiday and "holiday it's a small world" - or they might be closed to remove the holiday decorations. Those usually stay up through the second or third weekend of January.

It IS off-season, though, so unless you're there on a Friday or Saturday night you won't see the fireworks or Fantasmic!, and the Electrical Parade won't be running at DCA. And there will probably be several attractions down for refurbishment.

That's also California's rainy season, so you might have rain during your visit. Of course it could also be 80 degrees - you never know.

"Must dos" with young kids...Fantasyland, especially Dumbo. Visiting Mickey and Minnie's houses in Toontown is fun, too - and you can meet both Mickey and Minnie there, also. If your girls like princesses, they might enjoy meeting the princesses outside the castle (they are usually doing character greetings there with Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella), or meeting Ariel at King Triton's fountain. The Pooh ride in Critter Country is fun, too. The Buzz Lightyear attraction and Autopia (fastpasses available for both of those) are usually popular with younger guests, also. And if you're going over to DCA, do NOT miss the Aladdin show - it's really well done, and fun for all ages! There's also Playhouse Disney at DCA, and "a bug's land" has lots of attractions just for kids their age.

What can be missed...if your kids aren't into thrill rides, then you could miss "the mountains" - Space, Splash, Big Thunder, and Matterhorn, and the Indiana Jones attraction (though I'd hate for the adults to miss that one - it's the best ride at Disneyland in my opinion!). And a lot of the rides at DCA will be out, like California Screamin' and Tower of Terror.

Thank you all for your help. We are planning for jan 8-11 and have yet to book a hotel and get tickets. I think we will stay off site (I think that is the correct way to say a hotel not owned by Disney), and then I will check around for a good deal on tickets.
I hope to give the girls things at Christmas for our trip, like a princess dress and maybe a few shirts they can wear with Disney stuff on them.
I need to fine a cheaper way tp do autograph books and stuff like that.
We are not so tight on money that we can't eat, but we are tight on money becuse I don't work. So I am trying to find a bit cheaper ways to do things.
I would love to hear anything you have to tell me.

I saw on another thread where someone (UtahMama I believe) went to shipping before her trip and made some autograph books. They were pretty cool. She got small notebooks and decorated them with stickers, covered the front of them with Disney characters, and ribbons. They were pretty cool. I will see if I can find the link for you so you can see them. But you could make these ahead and give them to your DD's for Christmas.

Here's the link, she put a pic of them on page 5.
