Good morning and guess what its almost TGIF at least for some of you and the most exciting time is the cruise of all cruise the Magic will be having takes place Saturday - WOW what an experience for those going.
Anyhow wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on here - the restauarant The Tea Room which was destroyed by the hurricanes is now opened in Cape Canaveral - their location is exalty 1/2 mile South of my shop and right next door to ABC Liquior - their food is tops and a very clean place - the owner is Janet - also what was the Moon Hut is now a Mexican restaurant and they are just about getting ready to open - I don't have a menu, but will let you know as soon as they open - they are about 1/2 mile South of the Radisson - The Moon Hut was closed down for quite sometime and I am so glad to see it getting ready to open for it has been a landmark for many many years. Ground has been broken for the new 2 motels which will be opening North of the Radisson - The Residence is by Mariott and the Country Inn and Suites, I haven't been able to find out yet. The new one by the Radisson's owner in Cocoa Beach is really shaping up, but still has quite a way to go before opening - I would guess maybe 2 to 4 months. The Wakulla is quite an experience - it too has come a long way - for just a place to chill out - I still always recommend Motel 6 - now I am checking on another place that has been in Cocoa Beach for years, but I have never checked out - looks like a nice place that won't cost a fortune called Luna Sea in Cocoa Beach. The Howard Johnson received too much damages from the hurricanes and has been torn down - what is going up? Will keep you posted. If there is anything you would like checked out, just let me know.
Don't know if it is rumor or what, but heard it in the grapevine that the attraction TRaxx by Radisson has been sold for another motel AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG - if it is true, sorry to hear that since the children's place here is all being taken away.
Anyhow that is it for this morning - will keep you up on the news here,
always
Shirley

Thank you Shirley ... See you on friday, Peter

No Trip toThe Port area is Complete without, A hug From Shirley and Norm..

Peter...

Thanks Shirley. We are coming next June, with my family of five. Can I have your opinion on the Ron Jon resort? Are there two of them in Cocoa Beach or just one? They don't have a free shuttle, but I think they call a company to come get you. Any opinions on any particular taxi or car to get us to the port from there? thanks!

Hi Jillpie,
I have never stayed at Ron Jon's but Norm and I have gone through it all and to tell you the truth, I was very impressed - now I know there has been some that were unimpressed, but I belive the entertainments that they have for kids is super - I believe the staff are very friendly and do try to help when ever they need to - this is only my own impression, but then they knew I was there to check up on them - they have a company that they have indorsed to take their customers anywhere they desire - I believe the cost was $5.00 a person (I will check that out for sure and post it later) - the cabs around here I just don't know too much about - I should for this very reason so that is something else I am going to have to check out and see if anyone will work with me with a discount for those that are cruising - give me until next week -

Hey Peter --am looking forward to seeing you and Jenn ---can I go with you all????????? naw I can't -- gotta work :-( ------anyhow take care and have a safe trip here.
Until next time.
Always
Shirley

Shirley, is there a bagel shop in Port Canaveral? Thanks!!

Hey Shirley - thanks.

As a part-time Cocoa Beach resident I just wanted to say hi and I look forward to meeting you some day when my ship sails (April 2006). I have a condo in Chateau by the Sea by the pier so maybe I will meet you sooner than that. But since we are in full renovations from being completely destroyed from the hurricane, it may be a little while yet.

Can I lament that I sooo miss having Crab Heaven there by ABC Liquor.

Thanks for the update, Shirley. Have to check out those new places - good to see things coming back - it seemed like every place had roofers or some type of repair work going on last December. The Moon Hut was looking so lonely. Everyone around there is so friendly and kind, no wonder the place is growing so.

We too are occasional Cocoa Beachers. We stay at a condo at Chateau by the Sea for Christmas (not our condo, but I wish). Will have to hop on my bike and ride over and see you next time. :flower:

Hi Nuke - one of the best (and only one) bagel shop is called Bagel Paradise which is exalty one mile South from the Radisson on the beachside - in fact they are right next door is 7-11 store - great food -
slindamood and castlegazer - how funny you mentioned Chateau by the Sea - I started to buy a place there when the cost was waaaaaaay down there, but I chose Costa del Sol simply b/c it gave me the best of 2 worlds - the ocean and the river - too I knew hurricanes too well and didn't want to take a chance. You have a great place there and the best part almost one step from the beach. :sunny: I sure can understand about Crab Heaven - anything that has tried to make a business work where they were in CC, just hasn't had any luck - Crab Heaven is now in Merritt Island and slowing getting back on its feet after having so much damage from the hurricanes - mainly their parking lot had over 3 feet of water and no place to go except through every nook and cranny it could through the building -
This has been interesting to read the imput and its good for those coming here for the first time - those won't feel so scare knowing all the little stuff about this town.
Anyhow will most more later - my soap is on :teeth: (like I don't see enough of life soaps)

Shirley, thanks a bunch for that feedback on Ron Jon, appreciate it. I wish someone would just tell me where to stay, I hate these decisions. Especially when it comes to sleeping five. Have an awesome weekend. :)

This sounds great SHirley..I always love these updates..At least I can picture it in my mind.. :cloud9:

I would LOVE to retire to a condo in Cocoa Beach one day. I tell my Hubby that every time we are there, and even when we aren't... :earseek:

We usually stay at a cheapie place...Best Western or something, just for the night....I would LOVE to try Ron Jon's, but have trouble to justify it, knowing we will be cruising after....

Take care....Freezing here in Montreal... :cold:

Hope the storm wasn't too too bad for you guys... :grouphug:

Jillpie: I know how hard it is to find a comfortable place for a family of five. We like to have a place that allows us to relax and not be shoved in together. If you need a place where you will be spending the day and not just sleeping than RonJon is great. We stayed in a 2 bedroom and had more than enough room and the kids had a great time. The Radisson king suite is also big enough for a family of 5. We stayed there twice and liked it but gave RonJons a try last year and loved it. Either hotel is a great choice.

We're at Ron Jon's right now. Hi Shirley! I agree with Shirley..this place is really pretty nice. Lots for the kids to do..outside play area, huge indoor play area, minature golf, fabulous pool with slide and lazy river ride. Our room (1br suite) is large, very clean and nicely furnished. We had dinner out by the pool last night and it was wonderful. Great food. DW had the swordfish and I had babyback ribs. They gave us huge portions of everything and not one thing on the plate was less than delicious. The little one had chicken fingers...also very good. We took a cab into Cocoa Beach last night for a little grocery shopping and walking by the pier. The cost was about $8. I would certainly recommend this place for a one or two night stay prior to cruising.

We're actually having a hard time enjoying this right now though, because we are just too anxious to get on the Magic in the morning and begin the trip to California!

Shirley, so glad to see that the Tea Room is opening again! We stopped by last time we were out there, but it wasn't open yet...they were still busily working on it. I visited the old location several times and it was WONDERFUL! Their chai is heavenly.

Sweetspot, thanks! Can you tell me what you did about breakfast? We are DVC members, so I am aware these rooms are very similar. But to tell you the truth, I wanted to avoid the grocery stop and just do a nice breakfast near the resort for those two mornings. Did you go out and buy your breakfast food? What did you do about dinners? Also, we're going in June, would we pay an arm and a leg for a one or two bedroom there for 2 nights?

We drive to the port so I packed breakfast food to make in the room. We had dinner one night at the pool but we only had hamburgers and chicken fingers, which were great, so I can't tell you about the other food. We stayed by the pool for a while that night, had drinks and talked to other people. It was a great night.

I remember a gift shop that had food available in the resort so you wouldn't have to hit a grocery store for breakfast if you could find something there. Also, we stayed in Nov. Our rates the first year were great because they were offering a code. This year the only discount we could get was AAA. It is definitely more than the Radisson but the room was bigger and there was so much more to do that I thought it was worth it.
