New 5K walker questions

I will be walking in my first ever 5K at the Twilight Zone 5K in October.

How will I know where to go to start? I'll be taking the bus to the studios from all star sports but then what? What time should I get there?

I hear people talk about corrals. What does that mean? I walk about a 16:30 minute mile.

I've also read about starting in waves? What does that mean?

Will there be plenty of signs or cast members around if I'm confused?

How will I know where to go to start?

There will be folks directing you. If it's the same as previous it will be outside of HS and toward the left as you face the Studios.

I'll be taking the bus to the studios from all star sports but then what?

Get off and head left or get there early and enjoy some Studios time. I don't know about getting back to your resort though.

What time should I get there?

I'm not sure exactly how early you will need to be there exactly. We played in the park before for a bit and my DH held onto my change of clothes during the event. We put them in lockers while in the studios. Hope someone else has some good info.

Corrals are just that. Picture a roped off section where you enter according to your number and are placed according to your expected finish time/pace. There are usually quite a few corrals in bigger events. At the start everyone basically heads out from their corral at the same time. The last person over the start line will be the time used for pace requirements. For this ToT event it is a line up as best as you can with runners in the front. It's a kind of informal line-up. There weren't exactly corrals. Again, someone can add to this since I've not been to all of them.

I've also read about starting in waves? What does that mean?

With the wave system, you are grouped according to your expected finish or pace time. Between groups there is a delay of a certain time giving some space between groups as they move along. The idea I think is so everyone is not completely bunched one on top of the other. It still will follow that the last person over the start line will determine the time the course will be open for the requirement of time.

You will see many folks helping and offering info if you need it.
