DD will be 12 on our next trip, and I'd love to have her spend a few hours at the Neverland Club so DH and I can have some much-needed child-free time. I'm not at all worried about her needs not being met in that setting. She attends kids events at a local art center with no issues at all. She is high-functioning, has a few quirks but no behavior issues. I'm confident they can deal with a peanut allergy. My only concern is that she will be the oldest child there. Has anyone used the kids clubs for older children with special needs? In some ways she is young for her age and has interests like that of an 8-year-old, yet in other ways she is a typical preteen and likes to be with kids her own age.
Two years ago I would not have even considered something like this, due to anxiety and behaviors. Thanks to some great doctors, we have seen rapid improvement in so many areas, and she can finally enjoy activities like other kids, with far fewer accomodations than were needed in the past. Since she will be 12, this will be our only opportunity for her to go to a kids club, and I really hope this will work out.
