Never get a room that's right by a pool. This past year when I went, we had to make calls every night to the front desk for them to do something about the screaming children. I don't exactly understand what kids were doing at a pool at 10 to 11 o clock at night, but they kept my mom and I from falling asleep, when we desperately needed it.

Well that's no fun to not be able to sleep because of screaming kids. What resort was this???

Well I think you would be best if you stay away from a pool for sure if you plan to sleep at 10PM in WDW. There are infinite travel habits out there and believe it or not-some folks are just strating to have fun at 10PM. If you think about it, a lot of folks may well have arrived from the west coast and it is only 7PM then. If my kids were screaming (when they were younger) at 10PM I would end that right now, but not everyone seems to care.

As for a pool room for us, we could care less how noisy it is at 10PM because we always close a park at night and rarley get back until after midnight-but we enjoy the pool by the room in the afternoon.

Precisely why I always request a quiet room on my fax. But I also can't remember the last time I was in my room before 11pm either.

Well, pools are notorious for having activity well into the night. Some areas are more insulated than others. We had a room facing the volcano pool at the Poly and heard no noise whatsoever. We also like to swim late (around 11pm or so) because it's cooler then.

I'm with SeaSpray in asking, what resort was this?

We were given a room facing the volcano pool at the POLY and immediately asked to be moved. Too much noise and traffic all day long.

What resort was it? I have a pool view rm at AKL booked for sept. I requested an upper flr so Im hoping for a nice view w/minimal noise:wizard:

We learned this lesson when we stayed facing the computer pool at POP (on the 4th floor!) one year. It was soooo loud, although we have never had any complaints staying near the quiet pools at some of the other resorts. :confused3

I'm one of those at 10PM, no more noise.....if we're at the pool, time to come in. I respect other peoples sleeping habits, because I would hope they would respect mine as well. I might have the TV going, but that's about it. I would never play it loud. At the same time, please don't start swimming at making noise until about 8-9AM either!!! Granted, I wake up earlier than that, but c'mon, mornings are suppose to be tranquil!!! You won't ever mind my son screaming that early - unless he's on a ride!!

Disney leaves the pool open all night so that people can enjoy them all night. I agree that there should be no screaming going on, but to say no one should be swimming after 10pm or before 8am is a bit much.

I do my best to be respectful, but at the same time I realize that people are on vacation and want to enjoy themselves. If that means they like to swim at 6am so what? As long as they are not screaming their heads off, it is not a big deal. Not everyone goes to sleep or gets up at the same time. If loud noises bother you, turn your fan up or bring a white noise machine, then you are all set.

I can just see telling the kids "You can get up now, but you have to be tranquil!" Ain't happening at Disney World.

I don't know if the pool still has hours, but several years ago staying at Old Key West near a supposedly quiet pool (not the main pool) there was noise in our room that was enough to keep me awake, WAY AFTER the pool was closed for the night. The doors were all closed to the room, but there were adults by the pool or in the hot tub that were being loud. The front desk person just told them to be quiet, but security finally made them leave. I wouldn't have cared if there was someone swimming laps or being quiet, but those people were loud.

What it comes down to is respect or lack there of for other people.
Keep the noise down in the pool and keep your kids from running down the halls after 10pm at night. I'll keep my kids quiet at 6am when they are up and wanting to go.

We had to call once last year about screaming teens at the pool. It was like 12am and oh so annoying!

I was at POP one year facing the computer pool and had some trouble falling asleep the first night because of the noise. I saw some parents with their 6 year old swimming until midnight. Thankfully the rest of my vacation was fine because I was so beat from walking the parks all day that I could have slept through just about anything.

we have stayed in rooms facing the pool at bc, and yc, and bwi. we have been facing the boardwalk, and never heard a peep after our doors were closed.

We stayed at CSR last August and my DD (5) and I tried to go down for a quick dip around 10 pm in the quiet pool. My daughter got in first and I probably had one toe in the water when a security man told everyone to vacate the pool because it was being closed due to several complaints about noise. I was surprised, I didn't think they actually "closed" the pool. I told him I was disappointed because we just got there and were looking forward to a nice relaxing swim. He told us that we were more than welcome to head over to the main pool. Well, it was quite a hike from where we were over to the dig site pool, but my little one really wanted to swim, so I caved and we walked over. About 45 min later we returned only to find the pool open with lots of swimmers. Boy, was I mad:mad: . Seriously, what is security going to do, stand guard by the pool to make sure no one goes in all night? I guess we just timed it wrong.

Years ago we honeymooned at the BC and our room was over the "quiet" pool, yeah right it was anything BUT quiet especially at midnight. (and the doors and curtains were closed) Since then we always made sure we weren't facing a pool UNTIL our last stay at SSR. Our room was on the ground floor facing the pool for our section. We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom villa from a studio so I had to decide whether we would take a chance and lose that 1 bedroom by switching or just give it a try. Turns out a lot of SSR was built with hurricane impact windows. A nice extra plus with those types of windows is that they keep MOST of the sound out! ;) And that they did!:thumbsup2 That would be the only place facing a pool would be acceptable to us.;)

So anyone ever staying at SSR worried about noise from DTD or PI, DON'T...you can't hear a thing (of course your windows need to be closed;))

This is just me but, if I was still encountering the same problem after two nights, I'd get my room changed. Sure, it's annoying to pack up and move, especially when the cause is external - but it beats having to complain about the noise EVERY night of my trip.

I encoutered the same issue at All Star Sports on Febuary 07, there were several large cheer groups in and the front desk and secuirty were unable to Quiet these teens. My 11 year old son even made the comment " Where are the parents?"
We do close the parks and most days these teens where in the pool until 3 or 4 in the morning. They would quiet down when security would come and then start right back up when they left. It was a long 5 nights all the perferred rooms were booked at all the all stars so they would not or could not move me, or maybe I just got a cm having a bad day.
I will never ever stay at Sports again on the advice of Disney, ( who I did call when I got home to express my feelings , about this and another problem) who said for the All Stars Music and Movies are normally better for familes as the use Sports and Pop first for large groups and then overflow in the Music and Movies as needed. . I have stayed at Music before and after and will continue but never facing the pool anymore :thumbsup2

But, at SSR I was facing the pool and maybe it is because of the way it is set up but I never heard a peep
