Never stayed off site.....

I am considering a last minute trip Oct 20-24, looking at staying off site. Before we always stay at DLH Will we be disappointed off site? me and dd 6 so we do actually spend some time in the room. Hojo's sounds like maybe ok?

Hojo would be great if you are okay with a little bit longer walk or will take the ART shuttle. It's about as far as walking to Paradise Pier but it just seems longer to me going down Harbor!!!

We stay offsite a few times a year and we don't really have a problem with it at all. Of course I love onsite, but I couldn't go as often if we only did that! Also even though my kids are 5, 3 and 10 months, we don't spend very much time in the room at all so that will make a difference for you. I like the Desert Inn and the Carousel also. Most of the rooms are the same between there and Hojo to me, but the grounds are the difference.

Mickey's Halloween Treat, the party after hours at DCA for Halloween. It is going on select nights in October and is a seperate hard ticket event. Our tickets were $19 each, and they get to dress up in costume if they want and trick or treat and most of the rides are open. There is usually games, and characters in costume too.

It's a special hard ticket event at DCA select evenings in October.

If you go to the official Disneyland site you'll find more info along with which dates are still available (some nights have sold out)

Abby's Mom: We had never stayed anywhere but the DLH until a couple of years ago. We stayed at the HoJo. We still had a great trip and yes I missed the DLH but then again it was fun to try something new and save a bundle in the process. Disneyland is really about the parks after all. And as long as you go in knowing that virtually any offsite motel near Disneyland will be just that, a motel that might be a bit older and not a themed resort area, you will be fine. I found the walk a bit long, I know distance wise its about the same as the DLH but since its up a busy street and not DTD its not as interesting I guess! In any case it was very clean, oversized room and a nice pool area with fun spray jets and kiddie pool for kids. The staff was wonderful and it had some nice grounds. I would stay there again, but I prefer to be closer. Our last offsite stay, we chose the Tropicana. Newly remodeled rooms, small but adequate pool area and hottub (no kiddie pool however and the pool is older so it has a deep end). It also had a free but minimal continental breakfast. It was right at the cross walk and much closer and easier to get to and from each day than the HoJo. I might also recommend the Candy Cane Inn. I haven't stayed there but honestly, I have never seen one bad review of this place, it has a free breakfast and its own, dedicated shuttle. I am not trying to sway you from the HoJo but I didn't care for walking with that traffic right alongside us. Especially when my son almost got run over by some idiot that ran a light. But that can happen anywhere. If you do choose the HoJo, ask for a non freeway side room to avoid noise problems.

We live in SoCal and still will stay at the Sheraton. It has a shuttle that is always running and has really large rooms and a good pool. It is kind of silly that we live on 25 minutes away, but we really enjoy our stays there.

I'd recommend the Candy Cane Inn. (www.candycaneinn.net) It's a similar distance as HoJo's, but the other direction. (It's on Harbor near Katella) Rooms are lovely, albeit smallish, with very comfortable beds, and the free breakfast is quite good for a continental breakfast.

The best part is the free shuttle that runs every half hour. It goes ONLY to the Candy Cane, so it's quick and convenient. Although the walk is easy (probably between a quarter-mile and a half-mile?), it's nice to have the shuttle at the end of the day when your feet are tired.

We never stay on site just because it's expensive. You can find a good hotel with breakfast and within 5-10 minutes walking distance for about $100 or less.
