OK, I am totally New to the whole scrapbooking thing.. Love the idea, I'm however not very creative...

I do have a Question.. your opinions would be great...
Background...
My hubby and I are taking our 2 kiddos DS-8 & DD-5 to WDW for the first time in November... this is their Christmas present from us...
I have bought my DS a digital camera to take his own pictures (gonna give it to him when we get there!!!)

In your opinion will an 8 year old boy - scrapbook??
Money is tighter than usual this year and Christmas is going to be small under the tree.. I was thinking about getting the 2 kids scrap booking things to make books from the photos they take.. the supplies will be from Santa..

Opinions PLEASE... I found some cool books, pages and stickers at JoAnn's .com....

TIA

Kim

If they enjoy crafts then they will probably enjoy it. I would sugest making sure you know how the camera works before arriving at Disney even if you are not giving it to your son until then. Scrapbooks are a combination of written and photographed memories. It is always interesting how children see them- when I have scrapbooked with children they don't do things they way I would but they enjoy it.

You know, you really started me thinking. I have an 8 year old DS and have never really thought of introducing him to scrapbooking. But I think he would love it! Especially if he were able to use some fun stickers like Lightening McQueen, Mater, the Incredibles, etc. You have just given me an idea for a Christmas gift for him. Thanks!

All you can do is try.. if not you and your DD could use the items just tuck a few extra things away now in case he doesn't that you can trade him for later...

Anyway, my 4 boys aren't into their own books doing it...but they love to help me and suggest and work w/ me when I'm creating their books... they come up w/ some very clever and unique ideas... I have found that my DS12 will sketch page ideas for me of his events... that helps alot!!!

DD is forever taking my stuff...so I have to round up my stuff from her room constantly... I've threatened to call ADT for a security system to my scrap area...which is in the laundry room.. so why they can go in for my scrap stuff and not help w/ laundry is beyond me! LOL

I'm also making books for my kids this year...but I'm journalling very little.. I want them to journal in their own words through their eyes!!!

My DH did his own scrapbook of his days racing Midget cars with his DF. I was never allowed to check on the progress of the album. The only thing I was allowed to do was the journalling, and then he told me exactly what to write.

The basics of scrapbooking is using safe, quality albums that won't ruin your photos, adhering on the page, and journaling the who, what, where, when, and why's of the photo. I think it would be a great thing for your DS to do. It strengthens writing skills and a great way to preserve his childhood.

There are so many kits out there that can add to the ease of being creative about making your scrapbooks. Even if you feel you aren't creative (I know where you are coming from, I think of myself in the same manner), you can make wonderful albums that will be treasured for years to come.

suggest having him answer a few basic questions each day and write the answers in a notebook - like favorite thing - that sort of thing - there was a really good article about kids scrapping in a recent magazine. . . wish I could remember where.
