I was just wondering is there a thread somewhere for people that grew up on DisneyWorld, but want to check out Disneyland?

Or vice versa...

I am thinking of going to Disneyland...mostly to compare the parks, thought that might be fun..of would it? WOuld I be disappointed?

Can the magic I have had at WDW...be captured in a different park?

I wonder....

Interested to hear about anyone else that has had this idea....

Most WDW vets report back that they had amazing time at DLR.

The ones who say they were disapointed were the ones who expected it to be just like WDW. They complain that the castle is too small and they rush through the park without noticing the charming details. Like the light in Walt's apartment, Snow White's wishing well, the original Tikki Room, or the Animation Building in DCA.

They don't research ahead of time to find out that parkhopping can help you make the most of your time during the day, collecting FPs for both parks. And while they complain that most of the food places in DLR are "just counter service", they don't bother to find out ahead time which ones have really good food. Instead they just pick whatever one they happen to be next to when they are hungry and order a hotdog.

Those are just some of typical things I keep seeing time after time on here. But since you have already realized there will be differences and are interested in finding them out, I don't think you will be disapointed. Just reading that thread the PP linked to will be a big help. Although I'm sure there will things you like better at each place, I think you'll enjoy a trip to DLR. :goodvibes

DCA with Carsland is hopefully going to finished sometime next summer. At this point you might want to wait and make sure it is before you come.

I am a WDW vet (since 1977), and I just got back from my first DLR trip about a month ago. I found DLR just as magical as WDW, even though they are different. I figured out that the Disney magic is mostly in the people and the interactions with cast members. The attractions are great, too, but I've been to WDW enough times that I wasn't worried about missing something that I love from Florida. And another thing...I don't know when you plan to go, but you cannot beat the SoCal weather. I was there June 18, and the high was 72!!!! And the locals were complaining, LOL.

I read hydroguy's posts quite a bit before I left, so I wasn't taken by surprise by anything. But I'll tell you, within the first 2 minutes on Main Street, I was sold. I love Disney East and West, and I can't wait to go back to both.

We're west coasters so visit DLR often (going next week!). We've also been to WDW enough times to know it inside and out as well. You can't compare the two. They're very different experiences but both magical.

At WDW we stay longer, 7-10 days. We love being lazy, enjoying the day and not rushing. The multitude of dining is a big part of our WDW vacation. A great place to go for a long vacation.

At DLR our trips are 2-4 days unless we add in Knotts, SeaWorld, Universal, beach etc. DLR for us is more about rides, shows and the Disney magic all in a compact walkable area. Park hopping is a must as the two parks and downtown Disney are 5 minutes walk between as well as short walk to any of the 3 Disney resorts.

As for rides and shows DLR has 80% of the number at WDW. Disneyland itself has 30% more attractions than Magic Kingdom. DLR packs a ton into a small area that in many ways allows you to do more in a shorter period of time.

Another WDW vet planning on a DL visit next July 2012! I am just excited to be at the 1 yr mark:woohoo::banana: We will be so excited for next summer. We are debating about a Good neighbor hotel vs staying at PPH.

thanks for all your views...

I grew up with WDW, I was there as a toddler when it opened in 1971 , they haden't even finished building some parts- I was told ...so I wasn;t sure if my sentimental outlook of WDW could have been becasue of this bonding experience...with many supsequent returns, as a child, teen...and now when I bring my own children to the place...it almost brings tears to my eyes and leaves a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart ( I am sure WDW is smiling about that - $$$$) , but I guess I will find out for myself when I visit DL !!!

...At the very least , I think I will enjoy seeing the place where it all started I am found of Walt as a visionary with an amusement park dream .... should be interesting to see the feelings that the place emotes.

and HYDROGUY...your review was ridiculous.. and exhaustive - NICE JOB - this will come in handy!

THANKS!

I think you should give it a try and find out ;) make sure you report back and let us know how it went. I'm an Aussie and I've been to disneyland only 3 times so far with another trip planned this year, but for my 40th I'm planning a Disneyworld trip. That's a few years away but I can't wait to experience it. My dh feels that it won't be as magical as disneyland (as it's become our holiday home) but we are more than willing to give it a try :) I'm excited about it already and it's 3 years away (did I say that out loud?).
