Never been on a Cruise

My family (me, DH, DS - 10 yrs old, DS - 15 mths) have travelled extensively but have never been on a cruise, Disney or otherwise. We are planning to go on DCL Dec. 2003. Any advice would be much appreciated. We'll be doing a 7 day cruise. Which itinerary do you like better? I know nothing about anything having to do with cruises and feel hopelessly ignorant. I am a planner. I always totally plan out our vacations. I enjoy it. But with this I don't even know where to begin!
Friends have told me that you can save money by planning your own shore excursions. They say that there are other ways to save money too.
Just think of me as being "Cruise Challenged" and include any and all information possible. The more detailed, the better.
Also, we would like to go to the Kennedy Space Center. I know it takes a whole day. Should we do it the day before we sail or the day we get back?

You've come to the right place. You keep reading these boards, and you will find out everything you need to know about cruising Disney the right way!

You can save money sometimes by planning your own excursions. This seems to be a very personal choice, with some people enjoying that freedom while others prefer the security of a Disney sponsored trip.

You can save money by bringing your own soda/beer/wine on board, making your flight plans yourself and staying OUT of the spa!

BTW, I grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus, so hello to another Bergen County Brat!

well, you've come to the right place! Lots of info here and on some great sites developed by members.....for example, checkout barb/tony's site and dave_from_marietta's site . You can save money by arranging your own airfaire, transportation to and from the port, and excursions. Lots of suggestions on each of these topics. Start researching and ask as you go along! You're gonna have fun!
