Sigh - I live just far enough inland and out of a flood zone - so even when the Mid-Atlantic gets hurricane threats - I usually just don't care (or care very little - toilet paper - check, gas in my car - check, a bottle or two of water - check, a working flashlight - check, stuff off the deck - check - hurricane prep done).

This time, however, I'm scheduled to fly out of BWI to MCO on SUNDAY for a 4 day Disney trip. That stupid hurricane out there just doesn't want to pick a path!!! I could try flying out Saturday am instead - if I really knew my flight wasn't going to take off on Sunday. Flight price isn't that bad - but with an extra hotel night, too, it adds up. Getting delayed until Monday is just crappy for a short trip and I can't add a day on the other end of the trip.

Sigh, I can't decide what to do.....

I agree, thankfully not flying out until the 13th, but the weathermen don't make planning easier. Currently it looks like the European model has it going out to sea, but weather.com has so many paths for this thing it looks like a plate of spaghetti. As someone from Connecticut, I need to know to prep my house, but looks like we won't know until it starts to make the turn. I would say give it another 12-24 hours, then decide. If it is affordable enough, adding an extra day is always better than taking one away. Hopefully it works out for you. :umbrella:

Keep an eye on your airline's website and your airport's website. They'll let you know if they anticipate flights being messed with. If that happens, the airline will let you change your flight with no fees. So be packed and prepared in case you need to get out on Saturday, or earlier on Sunday if your flight is later.

Good luck circumventing Joaquin's wrath. I hope the storm doesn't have too much of an impact on your upcoming vacation.

I would suspect .. (at its worse) that you would have no issues flying out of BWI on Sunday .. but could be choppy weather on the flight down.

The worst (if you are able to get there) I would expect is a lot of rain the first few days of the trip.

I think Disney has a Hurricane policy where you can cancel your stay if either Disney itself or where you fly out of has a Hurricane Warning
From their FAQ:
If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area—or for your place of residence—within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may call in advance to reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Magic Your Way vacation package and most room only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney.

----
I don't think any Hurricane Warnings have been issued yet though ... but could depending on its path.

We are beginning to buckle down here (coastal NC), but it feels like the media likes to hype (aka - scare) up any storm that sniffs the US coastline "hoping" for the next Katrina. Where in reality, it is way too early to predict the unpredictable and it could simply veer off into the ocean like many of the big threats lately have done. In other words .. we have to wait and see a day or two before (just like any other "normal" storm/blizzard)

Hey, neighbor! I'm in Eastern NC too. All eyes on Joaquin, not to mention the current deluge and flooding we're already dealing with well before Joaquin even gets close.

I hope everyone stays safe!

Virginia and New Jersey Governors in anticipation has already issued State of Emergency so resources can be readied and in place. STAY SAFE all and have necessary supplies on hand!!:goodvibes

It's heading out to sea. You should be fine to fly out on Sunday. Whew!

I live in southern maryland and we aren't worried anymore about the hurricane. Now its just this nor'easter.
