so I go outside at lunchtime and I see an unusal amount of activity on South Street. as I get closer I notice a crowd has gathered to watch some sort of parade. there are horse drawn wagons, men in silk top hats, and lots of people in African garb. it took a few minutes, but I realized what I was watching.

Ceremony

Wow, that must have been quite a sight.

May they all rest in peace now.

It must be neat to work in an exciting place where you never know what will happen next. I work in Dullsville!

Well, I did see the Oscar Mayer Weiner-mobile parked outside a local hotel once.....that's about as exciting as it gets....

May they rest in peace.

OHHHHHHHHHH MAN!!!! Some people have ALL the luck!!!

The OMWeinermobile is my idol!!
Your town sounds plenty lively if you can attract the weinermobile, for heaven sakes! :p

Sounds like an interesting thing to see, Songbird. Life is so full of neat traditions and ceremonies......some sad, some wonderful.....it's neat that you got to see this one.

Cool. That sounds very interesting.

I really need to get back to NYC sometime. Or at least catch a show here at home!:p Sounds pretty neat to be able to see something like that.

That sounds incredible and moving.

I am sorry... what were you watching?

yes, it was, Patti. very interesting and moving.

Can I ask what, in particular, was moving? Was there any one thing about this unusual service/ceremony that stood out to you?

just the fact that the people involved in the ceremony -- and those watching -- were of every ethnic pursuasion that currently inhabits NYC.

DMickey, a few years ago they accidentally unearthed an African-American graveyard dating to colonial times. they removed the remains so they could complete the construction project, andnow the remains will be re-interred. today was the procession bringing the remains back to NYC.

I heard about that processional this morning. I went to lunch today and heard churc h bells playing god bless america. Did you hear that? I"ve never heard that until today and I go to lunch the same time every day.

I work near your Briar Rose, we should do lunch one day!
