Netflix!!

I don't currently have Netflix, but I want to join.
Quick question: Are all the Netflix movies available via the Wii or just certain ones?
(I wasn't too keen on getting DD the Wii for Christmas last year, but now I'm glad I got it. :) )

no, not all things are available for streaming. we still have our regular discs that come in the mail for the stuff that isn't available. but there is quite a lot available for streaming. mostly I have kid stuff, old movies, and tv shows on my instant queue. love love love love love picking/choosing kid shows/movies thru it, instead of having to use our mailed discs for them!!!!

Thanks - that helps! One more question - we already have a wireless router so how do I hook up the Wii to the wireless router?

Thanks- Diane:thumbsup2

I've had netflix for years. Unfortunately, I don't have a wii or ps3 as I'm not that into video games.
I also don't watch online as my ancient computer is too slow. I have a great internet connection though.

So currently I just deal with the mail.

Have you ever looked into getting a Roku player for streaming? My sister isn't into gaming and recently she got a Roku player for Netflix streaming and she loves it.

My DH set it up, so I had to go check!

Go to the Wii settings in the bottom left corner and then to the box on the right - I think it has a picture of a Wii console. Find "Internet" (it may be a page over) and click on that and it should have an option for connections. It should prompt you to enter your router password and whatnot.

HTH! If I messed it up, I'll call my husband, he'll know!

If you don't want a Wii or PS3 and you want to stream netflicks, I think the best deal is to buy a blu ray that is enabled. I purchased on for less than $150, and now I can stream all the movies I want.

My brother and I are looking to get our parents a Roku player for their birthdays (1 week apart). They won't do Blu-Ray, and don't want a Wii, (even though I told them they could bowl like the other Seniors :rotfl: ). Roku seems the way to go for them.

I agree that it is the best invention our house has seen in a long time. I'm a complete movie nerd so I love watching the older movies that they have on there in oodles (have 500 in each queue - no repeats!). My DBF is currently addicted to Prison Break. He loves it because he works at night and missed a lot of shows like Prison Break before we got our DVR - so now he's catching up.

For those who don't have a WII - my friend with a laptop also streams them to her TV - not sure how, but she said it was easy.

I thought I remembered there was another device for that. I couldn't remember what it was though.

Eh. I just bought a new dvd/vcr player for the living room since my old dvd player quit. I looked briefly at blu ray, but what I saw was another $100 on top of what I bought and didn't include a vcr (none of them do and I still own hundreds of tapes). My other 2 tv's are hooked up to vcr/dvd recorders. One is just over a year old, the other is under a year old. Since blue ray also doesn't record dvd's yet, I really don't want to spend the money on one.

I've actually wanted a wii fit, but the cost is just beyond me right now since I've only recently went back to work after being unemployed for about 10 months. I even had to put my Netflix account on hold for a few months until just recently. Unfortunately, I never know how long I'll be working as I'm working on an on again, off again project.

I'll look into the Roku, but if I remember, it was fairly expensive. But maybe it's some down a bit since it first came out. :confused3

I have lost many hours to Netflix. Bones, Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, The Tudors and Popular are all shows I have watched through Netflix. I love Netflix! DH and I each have our queues for the DVDs through the mail, and I love the instant feature. We watch on our computer as well as through our PS3.

We love streaming through the Wii, we hardly ever use it for gaming anymore. DH will be watching something through it on the tv and I can watch something different on my Mini laptop and we get discs through the mail.

I have been watching the Tudors some much, my family bought me the DVD's (all 3 seasons)for my birthday this week, so as my teenager says "free up some of the bandwidth" from streaming. Whatever does she mean???:rotfl2:

Love it! DS (11) has watched some of my old favorites - war games, short circuit, etc. He enjoys these "old" movies but I need to explain things like why the PC in War games has no windows (you had to memorize and TYPE the commands!) and why you need to put a phone in a cradle to hook up to the net.

I LOVED Popular!! I never thought to look for it. YAY:thumbsup2
It was a really good show and I was so bummed when it was cancelled.

Forget Roku. Get a Netflix enabled Bluray player - it will do a lot more for you than a Roku will and cost about the same. And Bluray players play DVDs (and make them look a little better) so even if you don't buy any Blurays you can still watch existing DVDs - but Netflix does Blurays as well (extra $2 per month well worth it) so even if you don't buy any you can still get them from Netflix in addition to streaming movies from Netflix.

A new thing I've not seen from Netflix before happened to us this week - we had Apollo 13 next in our queue but it wasn't available so they sent the next movie instead (Hunchback of Notre Dame for a little Disney love). Well yesterday I got an email that said basically "Sorry Apollo 13 wasn't available at your shipping center but we found it at another one in the country so we're sending it now and you already have the other one we already sent so enjoy them both." Two movies for the price of one (we have the one at a time plan). Sweet! :)

We just got a new TV that's wifi enabled and I love it! I've watched a lot of old classic movies, some newer stuff, all of Arrested Development and now I'm into Weeds. I watch way too late at night!

You know, I'll have to check to see if our new tv's are wifi enabled. We got 3 new LG tv's (insurance paid for them) last August.

For those buying the BluRay players for the Netflix, there is Wifi ready which means you still need to buy the actual Wifi adapter thingy, another $75 or so unless you buy one that has it built in. When they are built in, they do cost more.

Also, my husband wanted Netflix streaming in his den, so we picked up another Wii for $150 new. Now we have an extra remote, another system in case we ever kill this one and streaming Netflix.

Streaming has some great shows on it. We have tons of Dr Who, Man VS Food, Dick Van ****, we watched all but the last season of Lost sans commercials (love that!) and lots of things that I never would have watched, but because it was free I gave it a try. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was a wonderful streaming movie (about the Holocaust). And lots of PBS specials.

I just read here that you have to have a wireless router. I don't currently have one. Still want to join, though. I guess I'll just get the DVD's by mail for now.

You don't actually have to have a wireless router. I learned this by mistake. I thought we already had a wired router - so I ordered a part from Nintendo's site that would enable me to hook up the Wii in a wired fashion. Turns out we didn't even have a router (I'm not tech savvy - can you tell?), just a modem. But then I was stuck with the Wii part, so I went ahead and just got a cheapo wired router and ran a cord. Luckily my DBF is very good about running cords so the entire house is crisscrossed with stereo cables and the like but you'd never notice unless you pulled up the carpets and moved the furniture.

We have had netflix for about a month and LOVE it. We have a Wii in the living room and bedroom. I have a blu-ray player also, but it isn't Netflix compatible. On netflix, there is a tutorial to hook up the wii to wi-fi, super easy. I got my discs in a day or so when I ordered them (free) on netflix. When you get the disc, log-on to netflix and get the code.

The instant queue is awesome! DS had a shark project at school last week. I got one shark documentary in the mail the next day that wasn't available for instant que, he watched one movie on the netbook, and I put one in instant queue on netflix.com and it was immediately listed on the tv's queue.

Fraggle Rock, Suite Life, Drake & Josh, Super Mario Bros, Hidden Palms series, Boot Camp, The Ugly Truth, My Name is Earl series, Prison Break series, Kazaam, Race to Witch Mountain, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, Karate Kid, and Voltron are some watched recently. I love the old 80s shows and cartoons. The best part- no commercials! The $9 a month fee can't be beat either.
