Anyone here use Netflix? Anyone ever had problems with this service? What do you like/dislike about it. I'm considering signing up for it and before I do I want to hear what other people have to say about it.

Thanks, CCT

Its a great service. We sent a movie back and they said they never received it but we called and they corrected it on their end...just took our word for it. THe problem with me is that I forget to send them back! :)

I've had the service for a while and I like it a lot. The thing that I really enjoy is that I've seen movies that I never would have because of the recommendations they make. I've seen some great independant films and others that just would have gone under my radar-many that never appeared at our local AMC. The other thing I like is that you can change your membership terms easily to meet your needs. I tend to watch more movies in the summer months, so I go to a plan that allows me to have more out then, and switch to a 1 DVD plan in the fall and winter when I'm busier. I have had some issues with DVD's that don't play well, particularly older releases, but they do get a new one to you quickly when you report it.

Love it, love it! You'll probably get many replies like this. I can't think of anything bad....maybe if you mind not having the actual DVD case. The movies come in little envelopes, so all you get is the DVD itself. That never mattered to me.

Some people have speed problems, but not many. And definitely not me. I receive movies about as quickly as possible. If I return a movie on a Monday, they receive it on a Tuesday and send a new one that day. I'll have the new movie on a Wednesday.

More than anything...it's cost-effective. My local video store charges about $4 for a DVD rental. If I were to rent 2 per week, that would be $32/month. I pay Netflix $15 per month for 2 movies per week. I could have even more if I were quicker on returning them.

Perhaps it can be tricky having the movie you want, when you want it. You just need to watch your queue and make sure certain movies are at the top. I learned that I can have any new release on the day it comes out if I time it right (DVDs always release on a Tuesday).

You'll love it. Recently, and for some unknown reason, I went to our local video store and rented something. It was annoying to have to physically return it on a particular date. Netflix is so easy.

Commercial is done. Enjoy!

I started off at the 3-at-a-time unlimited level, but they started throttling me. It got to the point where it would take a week to get a new movie from the distribution center that is 15 minutes from my home. There was one time when, within 5 minutes, my entire queue of older movies changed from "now available" to "very long wait." And I often have to report a movie as lost in the mail upon return, which you can do after 6 days, and suddenly they find it within 30 minutes of my reporting it missing. So...I'm down to the 2-at-a-time, 4 movies per month level, simply because I don't watch as much anymore. I do like the convenience of doing it through the mail and that I can keep them as long as I want, though.

A fellow DISer recommended Netflix to me a while ago...

I joined because my family is perpetually late in returning movies, Blockbuster was getting expensive. For the Price of 3 movie rentals a month we get 3 at a time and cycle thru them all month long.

The funny part is I joined and hubby took over the membership, he and my daughter are in charge of the list of movies coming home now. Access online is easy, keeping a list is easy...Hubby loves the fact that he can get just about ANYTHING from there. We've watched old 70's Charleton Heston movies and B movies and classics and new releases without any hassle as of yet.

And as the formercastmember said, reporting problems is even easy. If you don't get a movie within 2 days you tell them and they'll send another. We have received broken discs (only one movie-two different discs) and they replace them quickly as well.

IMHO, it's sooo worth it.

I've been a member for over two 1/2 years and the service has generally been good. An occasional damaged DVD from them or one they didn't receive from me. Problem solved in short order. I'm on the 3 out plan and which is about $18/month. It's cheaper than one trip to the theater. Lately though, I've noticed that some DVDs take a little longer to arrive. That's because they come from a different distribution center than the one that's closest to you. Until recently you didn't know this but they've now included the distribution center's name (the city) in the email notifications when they ship. Now you'll know not to expect it the next day (usually) as if it had come from your local distribution center.

We have it and love it. It's great to not have to worry about going to the store to pick out the movie and hope it's there. We've been very lucky that every movie we have every ordered has been avalible. We have the one movie at a time deal. It think it's $9.99 a month. Way better than Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.

I LOVE netflix!
FWIW, CCTenor, your Netflix will probably ship from Brockton and Worcester most of the time.

We love Netflix! We started our membership in April of this year, I think, and we only took one at a time. It was alright for a while, but we started battling it out in our queue for what movies would come next...lol! We upgraded the plan to 2 movies at a time and it's worked like a charm! He has his queue and I have mine...no fighting over what gets moved to the top anymore! There has only been one time where it took them longer, about a week actually, to receive our return. We even requested a movie that wasn't available in our local distribution center and we still had it within 2 days! It was shipped from California to Indiana...

Overall, we're pretty thrilled with Netflix and would wholeheartedly recommend them!

We absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Netflix. We have used them for at least 2 years now, maybe even 3. I sure wish we would have started earlier.

It only takes about a day to get a movie, two at the most. They e-mail you and say they got them and e-mail when they send a new one out. We get 3 movies at a time and we always have 1-3 to watch at any given time. It's great because I can order a workout or something I want to watch, the kids can get things they like and DH can get things he wants.

As soon as movies are in the theatres and we want to watch them, we add them to our list. You just need to adjust your "qeue every once in a while so it reflects the things you really want to watch.

To me, Netflix is like TIVO - I'll never be without it!

Thanks everyone for the replies, this is great. I was just looking through their web site and thought of a question. If I want to watch Star Trek: Voyager, take season 6, which is a 7 disc series, would I get all 7 discs at once, or one at a time?

I love it too. We have the 3 movie plan if I send them in on Monday I have 3 new ones by Thurs. NO LATE FEE'S EVER. I have had a couple of issues and they were fixed right away. :thumbsup2

You'll get the discs one at a time.

That's the only downside to ordering the seasons of tv shows...one disc at a time! It takes forever to get through a season of some shows!! :)

I am also a netflix user and I love the service. I joined because of recommendations from this board.

I have it and simply love it! I ordered movies Sunday night, and just got it in todays mail. They are very quick and what is best is that you just have to drop them in your mailbox to return them. And NO LATE FEES!!!!

Enjoy if you do decide to sign up!

I had Netflix once upon a time, but now have Blockbuster's online plan, and it rocks!

If I want, I can return the movie to the store instead of mailing it, and for each movie I return at the store, I get a free in-store rental and they'll still send the next one in my queue. So, I get twice as many movies. If I don't have time to return it to the store, I can still mail it in, so I like the flexibility.

We LOVE Netflix!!! I love the fact that on the 2 movie plan we can split it into 2 queues - one for me, one for DH. that way when I return one of my movies, I get a new one from my queue. That helps to keep the peace in the house at times. ;) I would 100% say to get it.
