Anyone use either of these services? Pros? Cons? Netflix is $17.99, Blockbuster is $14.99. Do you find that you watch enough movies to justify the monthly charge?

Well, I just recently cancelled my Netflix to go with Blockbuster. In the month and change (about 6 weeks) I was a Netflix customer I only received 13 movies.

Tried both. I prefer Netflix. BB was WAY slower! Netflix has a distribution center about 35 miles away so the mailings only take one day each direction. At the time I was on BB, the distribution center they used was in North Carolina. The mailings took 2 to 3 days each way. I just received an email from BB saying they opened a distribution center in my area but it didn't say where it was located.

I would try both. Try NF for a month then BB for a month. There is no long term commitment for either.

I would suggest you sign up for the trial period for both services and compare.

I also just cancelled Netflix on Friday because Blockbuster was getting the movies to my house quicker. But that really depends on which service center you are closest to. If you do a search, there are several recent threads on this topic.

I will say one thing about Netflix and excellent customer service. One of my kids stuck one of the Blockbuster movies into a Netflix return envelope and mailed it. Netflix sent me an email saying they had received a movie that wasn't theirs, and then they paid to mail it back to me. That is pretty impressive.

A funny story a long those lines. One time I accidentally put the electric company check in the phone company envelope (the bills were right just the wrong check) and visa versa. The phone company sent the check back but the electric company deposited the check!! On top of that, since the phone company check was less than the electric bill, they tried to charge me a late fee!! Buggers!!

I just went with Blockbuster and for me the turn around is pretty quick. The distribution center is about 20 miles away. The cost of BB is a little bit cheaper. Plus with BB you get two coupon every month for either a free movies OR games from the store. That alone totals $8.00. So that was the selling feature for me.

And mvoies are 4.00 a piece from the store so you basically only have to watch 4 movies a month to justify the cost. Plus you just drop them in the mail. No more driving to the store.

I love it.

There are Blockbuster and Netflix DC in my city area (Philly).

I went with Blockbuster for a few reasons:

Price
In store coupons (both movies and games)
4 week free trial instead of two week trial

I did notice that there are more movies on short wait at Blockbuster. We copied our Netflix que onto Blockbuster. However with the movie coupons we can get these movies at the store (which is nearby)

Absolutely!! Since having Netflix, I have watched more movies than in all of the previous years combined. I love the flexibility of never having to return it on time. I love the fact that the movies come to me and I just mail them back when we're done. I love the idea of renting my kids a DVD before buying it to see if they like it enough. We've saved tons of money doing this.

I've heard a lot of negatives about Netflix lately. With the exception of 1 movie taking about 5 days to reach me (I received it the day they said I would, must have come from a distribution center other than the one near my house), I've not had a problem.

Based on past experience, I choose not to give business to Blockbuster. They have left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak with their regular rentals. I hope Netflixs sticks around. :)
