Netflix vs. Blockbuster

We have been using the BB service, getting DVD's 2-3 at a time at home. To be honest, as busy as we are it doesn't make sense, dollar-wise, to keep doing this. We get busy and have the DVD's sitting here for weeks w/o being watched.

I am looking at Netflix. For $9 per month you get to have one DVD at a time by mail and unlimited downloads to the computer. We don't have something that is Netflix-ready, like a Wii, x-box, etc, so we'd need to download to the laptop.

I'm thinking that the download part of this might make more sense for us. We can download and watch without having to wait for the DVD to arrive, whenever we have the time and want to watch. I also like to have movies or TV in the background while I am working at home.

Have any of you used the Netflix service? How reliable is the download subscription, and how is the variety? Was it worth it? Anything you have to say about it?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a Wii or PS3? If so, get NetFlix streaming service & bypass the DVD's altogether. We bought a PS3 just to use as a Blu-Ray player. Surprise, surprise!! We can stream NetFlix movies to it. It's squeezy eazy!!

I have Netflix and have really enjoyed it so far, you can do a free trial if you want.

Just be aware that not every movie is available for streaming, some are only available on DVD. Once you start your free trial you should be able to look thru their selections and see if you like what they have.

They have a lot of TV shows too, some older and some current.

They also have a lot of classic movies in addition to recent ones.

My family loves to watch Mystery Science Theater, even my 18 yo will get his pillow and lay out on the floor to watch.

HTH

You do not need to download the movies from Netflix. They are streaming videos. Me and my DD have been watching different movies at the same time. You can also hook your laptop to your TV and watch them.

HDMI from the laptop to the HD TV, works well. The streaming movie selection is not as good as the movies available on DVD, but it's ok.

What about Amazon viseo on demand? Is that a pay-per-view, or a subscription service?

Has anybody gone over there bandwidth with there internet provider because of this?

Actually, one time payment to Roku to buy the box then everything streams from there, but you have to pay for Netfix service. Hulu Pro is coming soon, Amazon is a pay per view - nver used it and there are bunches of other services too.

I don't have a limit - my download is 20mbs and upload is 2 mbs. The only service I know of that has a limit is cell service and satellite service. Maybe a Canadian thing? If I had a limit, I'd be in trouble, I think.

Were on cogeco high speed standard internet. It has a cap of 60gigs a month. We havent hit it yet but with our kids and 5 computers on the network I would be concerned we would hit the limit.

If you have a Blu Ray player, it may have the capability to stream Netflix already built in. My Panasonic has it.
