Not sure if this reminder has been put out yet but tomorrow the price increases for the $9.99 plan. If you do not want to pay $15.98 than you have to take action.

I only have the streaming live plan but I would hate for someone to forget about the price increase and get taken since it is such a large price increase if you have the Streaming and unlimited DVD plan now.

Thanks, Mom! ;)

I forgot about it, but we only used one DVD rental all summer so I don't think we'll miss it.

I think that you have up to your billing date to change your plan. This is the notice on my account -

"The price of your Unlimited Streaming + 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) plan will change to $15.98 (plus any applicable tax) a month starting with your next billing period on or after Sep 01, 2011.
  • You are currently in the Unlimited Streaming + 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) plan with unlimited time to watch instantly.
  • Your current period price is $9.99 plus any applicable tax.
  • Your next period begins on Sep 12, 2011.
  • Membership fees are billed at the beginning of each period.
  • The regular price of the Unlimited Streaming + 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) plan is $15.98 (plus any applicable tax)."
There are 2 more movies I want to watch and then I'm changing to just streaming only.

We changed to just streaming a couple wks ago also.. just not worth it to me for that much of a price increase.

I would say 95% of our TV time is streaming movies.. we usually only got 1 movie a week through the mail, if that.. and from now on, we'll just pick up any movies we'd been wanting to watch at redbox when we go to Giant Eagle (grocery store, so we're there weekly anyway).

I'm doing the same. Our billing date isn't until the 27th so I'm going to enjoy the plan we're on for a couple more weeks and catch a couple things I've been waiting for, then change our plan a few days in advance of our next bill.

I just made my changes and was coming here to post a reminder!

You can change it now and the change goes into effect on your next billing date. Just because you lower your plan today doesn't mean the plan change goes into effect today. I changed ours from 2 at a time to 1 at a time this morning but it told me we'd still have the 2 at a time until our next billing date on Sept 7th. With a 2 month old baby in the house finding time to watch a full movie is almost impossible - it took us three days in bits and pieces to watch the last Star Wars movie this past week, haha.

I currently have this same plan and they quoted me a new price of $17.98 a month, WTH? I think I am going to cancel the streaming and get more discs since most of the streaming movies are old.

I was all set to join up with Netflix awhile back until I checked out the streaming option-Personally I didn't see enough movies/t.v. shows to make it worthwhile. Plus most of the streaming movies are pretty old. Then within a few days of my checking it out I heard about the price increase. So no Netflix for me. ;)

My DSis had been with Netflix for a really long time and she has a note on her calendar to cancel it by tomorrow. She feels it's no longer worth it.

Personally, I love Redbox. We have quite a few locations nearby and you can't beat the $1/night price.:goodvibes

Last year I even picked up a few for our plane trip to WDW. I ended up keeping them a few days but it was still a good thing. We were staying in Sarasota the first few nights so it was pretty easy to find a Redbox to drip them off at. I plan on doing it again this year. Probably will pick up 2 movies on the way to the airport and then try to return them by 9 p.m. (EST) the next day.

OP, thanks for the reminder.;) I'll remind by DSis.

Thanks for the reminder! My DH and I haven't been watching hardly any movies and with the On Demand selection from Verizon plus movie channels, we're wasting money on Netflix....much as I loved it. We won't even miss it to be honest.

I'm going to scale mine back to streaming only, at least until I can get cable installed. I originally had Netflix as a cheaper alternative to cable, but with the price increase, Netflix no longer saves me money. I can add TV to my FIOS service for $12 a month plus $300 for the cablecard tuner.

We had had the 2 out at a time and unlimited streaming, but I switched it to 1 out at a time and unlimited streaming, but may go back and change to unlimited streaming only, since we aren't taking the time to watch the DVD's.

We flip flop throughout the year anyway and have been known to put it on hold around the new television season and in the fall when we are traveling more, which I really like, because they don't charge us when we aren't using it.

Eh... I am fine with the increase. I did do research after they announced it, but I have enough on my streaming to keep that AND with the number of DVDs I can watch in a month, Redbox would end up being MORE expensive (and doesn't have many of the DVDs I want). So, I am keeping Netflix because I know their product and have had amazing customer service and experiences with them.

I think ours is going up by only $6.

I haven't really decided yet, I like the option of having DVDs but I tend to go in spurts with it.

Dawn

We use it quite a bit on the weekends, since we don't have cable. I have found alot of stuff to watch, and I haven't found that all the streaming movies are that old. They add new stuff frequently. It sure beats $50/moth cable that sucks.

Yep... even if I watched one thing from a streaming a day, I would have more then enough to last me through a long time. Not sure what I was thinking that I could get it all watched!

Thank you for the reminder! I kept meaning to go and switch ours but I always thought of it when I was away from the computer.

Oh, yes and DH can find endless amounts of stuff to watch, some programs we didn't get even when we had cable. I don't think we will ever run out of Mythbusters...LOL. I probably watch at least one program every evening.

On the app on my iPod, it makes suggestions based on previous things you have watched and I will watch some of that stuff, come to think of it, it was doing that on the Wii the other day.
