Netflix or Blockbusters?????

Got that Samsung blu ray player's wireless to work. Cost me $30 ordered a dongle from Newegg(thanks to recommendations of fellow budget boarders) so now we can stream video!

Which is better? how do they work? TIA

In our neck of the woods Netflix works better for us. We love the variety of instant online although we have a PS3 for streaming to the tv. I must say though that with Blockbuster we were regularly waiting for bluray movies where as with Netflix it is a day turnaround.

I had Blockbuster when I bought my blu-ray and cancelled the service to switch to Netflix - on blockbuster - you have to pay extra for streaming content - with netflix - it was part of my $9 a month subscription

We had blockbuster and loved the convenience of being able to exchange the mailed movies in store for free, but to save a little $$ we switched to Netflix. Its cheaper and the free streaming is great!

Netflix. I tried Blockbuster and had so many problems with it I gave up after a couple weeks. I've had Netflix for over a year and love it.

We had blockbuster for years and then switched to Netflix a year or two ago and will never go back. Netflix is faster. Greater movie selection. We love the streaming (we have a PS3, Xbox 360 and a Wii).

No, Netflix usually doesn't have the latest movies available for streaming. But I have noticed that through there partnership with Starz that they do have a lot more newer movies now than ever before.

In order to get the newest releases you need to have at least a 1 at a time membership.

I signed up for the $8.99 plan 1 at a time.

What does it mean when a title just says "SAVE" ? is that title not currently available or all copies are out?

There are 3 buttons:

There is Red - which says add - this is for movies that will be MAILED to you

There is Blue - which says Play - this goes to your instant queue or plays on your computer then and there

Then the ADD - not sure of the color - this means it is not out yet and once it is - then it will be added to your queue

Another vote for Netflix. The streaming alone is worth the $9 a month. Also, Blockbuster touts the ability to exchange movies in the store, but with the online services and the advent of Redbox, Blockbuster stores are soon going to be a thing of the past.

The Save button is if the dvd isn't out to send such as movies you see in the theater now. You can go ahead and add them to your que even though they aren't avilable on dvd yet. Sometimes though, with netflix, I find they advertise dvds they don't even have like Beauty and the Beast right now. It's on my saved list if they ever do receive a copy.

Also if you can find all the movies on the Starz channels, they are on instant download.

One thing I really like about the streaming option is that I can watch a movie on the tv and my husband while away can watch the same movie on his laptop.

Fellow Blu-ray owner here and since you are asking about Blu-ray specific, here's my take:

Netflix has been very good and we have been much happier with them than our old experience with Blockbuster years ago.

However - Netflix has now signed deals with Warner and another studio so that new releases will not be available AT ALL for the four weeks after release. You also pay more money for the Netflix Bluray plan (an extra $2 per month) whereas BB does not charge you extra. If you compare the 3 discs at a time unlimited plans between the two BB is the cheaper option and does not have the four week delay on new releases.

However again - many bluray users that have BB complain that even though BB does not have the delay they have such low inventories of blurays that they often have to wait forever anyway and they are constantly getting discs way down their queue instead of their higher listed discs.

I cannot comment on the BB streaming as we have never tried it - our LG bluray has Netflix built in but we have used it and enjoy it a lot.

And in case you have no already, go right away to www.blu-ray.com and join the forums. It is the DIS of Bluray. Especially helpful is the Hot Deals forum where everyone posts sales, price drops, etc. They also have a price tracker for every bluray available that tracks the historic price on Amazon and you can set a target price and if a title drops to your range it will email you. Mucho cool.

Beware, however. Spending too much time in the deals forum can be hazardous to your wallet because you will wind up buying disc after disc because the deals are too good to pass up, lol.

We have an LG blu ray player and I love Netflix! I think its like $12 a month and we get unlimited instantly streamed movies as well as blu rays and regular dvds through the mail. I never had BB so I can't say which is better but I love Netflix!!

We have Netflix for both the streaming and the great selection of TV Series dvds they have available. However, that being said, we have activated/used Blockbuster streaming on our Samsung BluRay, basically we have "rented" new releases for 24 hours for $3.99/$2.99 to a CC. Pretty convenient in our opinion.

We LOVE Netflix. We both are addicted to old TV shows that just aren't around anymore - and through Netflix we get to watch them!

We also have the 9$ membership. It's worth every penny!
