Hello all,

I am supposed to be getting a netbook to bring onto the CP with me but I dont know if I need a router in order to use it in the apartments. I know netbooks are supposed to be the net-on-the-go toy and are supposed to be internet ready and capable at all times (from what I've read at least.....).

Since that capability is supposed to exist already, and the apartments are said to be net-ready, do I still need a router lol?

:confused3

Unless they have changed in the last year since I left, the apartments ARE net ready, but they don't come with a wireless router. If you wanna go wireless you will need to get a router and hook it up to the wall mounted one. This was at Chatham. Again, things might have changed?

Many major mobile phone carriers are introducing wireless internet access plans for Netbooks. If yours comes with one of these, you wouldn't need a router - only the wireless receiver that your would receive from your carrier.

Otherwise, you would need a wireless router to access the internet (most Netbooks don't have the space to plug in an ethernet cable).

my dd has her net book with her and she took a cable and was able to plug in at patterson but she then bought a $40 router from wall mart in her first week and has set that up with no problems since
