Hi everyone,
I am in the market for a netbook. We already have a desktop, I just want something small to get on the internet with and take on trips. We have wireless internet at home. I don't want to spend more than $400.

Any recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated. :goodvibes

Thanks!

Prior to our holiday in January this year we purchased an Acer Aspire One and very happy with it.

It was perfect for travel and we were able to upload all the days pics to it every night. It was also great in hotels where wi-fi was available.

At home it's great for casual use and as a "guest" computer.

I have an Acer 1 also. I use it all the time, even right now. I got it for $299.00 at Staples. It did not come with MS Office, except for a 90 day trial, so if you are looking to do a spread sheet or a word doc, you will need to pay for the software at the end of the 90 days or download something else. I do like it because it is small and lightweight. However, I do have to wear my reading glasses to see the tiny screen compared to my desk top and standard laptop. For me, the only draw back is the short battery life, and I am to cheap to buy a 6 hour battery.

Another Acer Aspire One user here (I am on it as we speak!) Mine has the 8" screen. I like it beacuse the keys were the most "authentic" feeling, and it had the better ratings on Amazon. :thumbsup2

Oh, and if you're thinking of getting a netbook, at your first opportunity get Windows 7 for it.

I've had Win 7 on mine since around March and it rocks! Mind you Win 7 rocks on everything, even my Mac!

i just got the acer 1 too. but the 10 inch screen... it roxs.... No problems so far.

Dump the mcafee antivirus go with something smaller to run. I got rid of all the bloatware. * office , dvd player and few other things. I am running portable prgs now..Super fast..

I'd suggest AVG Free for A/V. When it comes to apps, I'd go with Google apps at the moment, though it looks like there will be a nice "Office Online" suite coming through from MS in the near future.

For photo software, take your pick from Piccasa (google) or Live Photo (MS). They're both pretty good and you can upload to multiple online storage solutions through both.

we bought DS16 an HP, about $300. It is almost indestructible. He has dropped it, stepped on it, downloaded who knows what on it, and the thing keeps going.
