Nervous about Mardi Gras (week after Pres Day) crowds

Please tell me this is not going to be a big deal. Unofficial Guide lists the Fri and Sat at end of Pres Week as crowd level = 9. No surprise there. Then the following week was "5" at publication and now the website says "6 or 7". We are used to Septemeber crowds. How will this compare? I want to avoid mobs at parades and buses.

Mardi Gras could be pretty tricky this year. Everyone with the week off is in one of these situations:
1. No house, no work, no way to go on any kind of trip.

2. A LOT of work to get done, either repairing home, business, or both. Lacking the time and/or funds to go anywhere.

3. Tired of working day and night cleaning up a disaster. Ready for a vacation, no matter what the cost. There are A LOT of people in this category around here. I actually know at least 7 or 8 families that have never been to WDW and are planning to go at Mardi Gras.

On one hand, I could tell you that it seems like everyone around here is headed to WDW. On the other, it will probably be much less than in past years. Since MG is supposed to be "abbreviated" this year, and the locals are thinking that things won't be too crowded with tourists, many people are planning on staying put and enjoying MG this year.

Last year we were there when it was Mardi Gras, Daytona 500, and the superbowl all at the same time!! The Mardis Gras people were no problem!! We enjoyed their festive attitude!!! The crowds we not unbearable with all three events going on at the same time!! I guess I would look at it as great the Mardis Gras people are here and they can get away from the mess that they will be dealing with for the rest of the year!! They are the least of your worries!!! go and enjoy yourself!!! You are at Disney!! What could be worse than that???

Oh please don't get me wrong, I don't mind people being there and having a good time, whomever they are. My question is how crowded will it be with Pres Day and Mardi Gras back to back? I hope not too bad.

I know for us the kids only have 2 days off, not the entire week this year. SO, we altered our trip, and we are going in 2 weeks. I "think" the "mardi gras" crowd won't be as much this year......... due to the hurricanes, school schedules changing, etc... etc...
