OK so all you nervous mothers out there can come commiserate (sp?) with me. :rotfl:

I have an 11 month old and we leave in two weeks. He still has to have baby food. He does eat cheerios and small bits of food, cheese, bits of bread, etc. But not a whole meal. So I am thinking it is a NO on baby food on the plane. No problem, I guess we can check one bag that will not go on DME and just pick that up when we get to MCO.

Here is my big worry. We have had our luggage lost going to MCO before. Before we had kids and that was a nightmare then. What if they lose our luggage what if I have no baby food for him. What am I going to feed him? We land at 11:30 and he usually eats at 12:00. I figure I can buy VitD milk when I get to the airport at a fast food place. Do they sell baby food at the airport? Or if all else fails at CBR?

OK freak out over. I am not usually one who worries about these things but, when you have a small child you HAVE to.

You might be able to bring a jar of baby food on the plane as long as the seal is not broken (like Gerber has the plastic wrap around the jar-dont remove it). They may make you taste or throw it out. Id try. As for Cheerios and other solid food, that shouldnt be a problem.

Interesting note-Im watching the news now. Seems two of the suspects were women. One was pregnant and the other had kids. They said they were trying to stray from the predictable profile of a terrorist. Knowing that now, maybe the rules will change again.

As for the lost luggage, you can always get a cab and go to the store, or I believe Ive read about grocerers who deliver to WDW. Im sure the hotel would help you out. My DD 13 mos has been eating all kinds of fresh fruit, panacakes, veggies, etc. since 11 mos. You can always order food in a restaurant and feed it to your child. If need be, mash it up with a fork. What you might want to do before you go is to slowly start trying new solids. Stick with the same foods (applesauce, bananas, carrots, beans, etc) that youve been using in the baby jars. You wont believe how much nicer and easier it is to be able to order off a menu or share some of your food with you child isntead of lugging the baby jars, having to heat them up, etc.

We were on the road traveling. We stopped at Cracker Barrell for lunch. I decided to order the kids veggie plate for my daughter then 11 mos. Green beans, carrots, and mac n cheese. She gobbled all of it down, plus some rolls and strawberries for dessert. I made sure the pieces were small enough that she wouldnt choke on them. Ive never seen a baby eat so much at once! She must have been in a growth spurt because she ate like this for about a month before she cut back on the amount. She tried so many new foods on that trip. To this day she still eats good stuff. I just hope it continues unlike my son who hardly eats anything.

Thanks for the reply! That is horrible that the pregnant/moms were going to blow themselves up! Some people are just plain nuts. :furious:

I seriously doubt they will let me take baby food. They had on the news yesterday they would only let this lady with a baby take one cup of milk for her baby. I guess we will just see what is it like in the next couple weeks.

I have been trying to get him on solids, but if it is too chunky he just spits it out. He doesn't really want to chew, silly boy. He can eat apple sauce, yogurt stuff like that so I guess if all else fails he just won't have a balanced diet that day. Maybe I will give him his lunch for breakfast. :)

While I am all for whatever restrictions it takes to keep us safe, I have been thinking a lot about what we are going to do for our Sept. trip if the rules don't change. My DD just turned 2 and has a very restricted diet (we are vegetarians and she has a severe egg allergy). I figure that I will bring a few empty disposable sippy cups and buy her a milk at the airport (throw out leftover before getting on plane). Hopefully the airline will be able to provide milk and water for the flight. If the restrictions continue, I hope that the airlines will at least let parents purchase cartons of milk for kids (if not provide them complimentary). I know my DD isn't an infant anymore, but she's not going to be very understanding if she wants a cup of milk during the flight and I don't have any.

My suggestions regarding the babyfood is to ship a box ahead of time. I've done this a couple of times and it has worked out very well. You just pick it up at check in. I plan to do this again, but I'm also going to send some tolitries as well. I always carried my tolitries on the plane because I didn't want to be without them if the airline lost my bag. With a preshipped box, I can confirm that my items have arrived before our trip begins.

Thank goodness it will be a domestic flight for you, so not too too long.

I would think if you brought baggies of cooked veggies or an overripe banana with a bowl and spoon, you could smash it enough to make it close to baby food texture.

Another idea is the baby safe feeder---just stick in cooked carrots or a chunk of banana or other soft fruit. http://www.onestepahead.com/product/85206/307755/117.html That plus an unlimited supply of cheerios ;)

In a pinch, I would feed my 11 month old any soft textured food- applesauce, yogurt, mashed potatos, banana(mashed by you). Aplesauce has saved us on many vacations!

I have been very concerned about these new restrictions as well. My three kids (ages 7, 5 & 3) have several food allergies - dairy, corn and eggs. We always travel with food for them since it is very difficult for them to eat at restaurants, etc. Our trip is not until Dec., but I already had our bags organized, notes on who would take what items in their carry-on, etc. Since we used frequent flyer miles to purchase our tickets, we were very limited on our flight choices and ended up with a couple of long layovers :rolleyes1 . I had already put together activity bags for the kids to take in their carry-on bags to help pass the time at the airports. These new restrictions could make for a long day! Had I known, I would have just paid for the non-stop tickets. Oh well, next time!

Solid food is still allowed, just nothing liquid. Baby food, from what I understand, is also allowed, just make sure it's in it's original sealed container when you bring it in. It's inepensive enough, it's at least worth trying I think. I hope your flight goes smoothly!

Oh we do have that baby safe feeder and lots of extra bags that go in them. I hadn't even thought to bring it, Thanks!!!! It is looking like maybe babyfood will be ok. I will give it a try. If not the baby safe feeder I think will do the trick. :cool1: He loves that thing, it is so messy though I hardly use it.

Leaving on Sunday and even though my baby is a big boy now~he does love to always have his cup of milk or juice. Not sure if this is allowed or not at this point. :confused3

They said babies and small children can have 1 cup of milk. It is kind of vague. I guess they mean toddlers. :confused3

We don't travel until November but I am also worried about this. My son will be 8 mos old and probably just starting on baby food (we started DD around 7 mos). So he will probably have only tried some rice cereal and one other kind of baby food. Maybe it will have to be applesauce......thanks for that idea. Then if we can't get jars of baby food for hours, we could at least find some applesauce in a restaurant....although it would probably be sweetened.

Another thought, not food related, but I really need to rethink what I put in my 3.5 year olds bag of things to keep her occupied on the plane. I have those Color Wonder finger paints, which are like a gel. And now I am wondering if crayons are allowed??? I just read that eyeliner is not, and that is basically a crayon!

This is tough with kids!

Oh and playdough! I just thought of that! If no playdough or crayons are allowed, I really need to re-think how we keep her occupied on the plane!

The new ban states no liquid or gel or any kind, including shampoos, creams or beverages. Baby formula and medications are not part of the ban, but are subject to inspection. So I wouldn't foresee a problem feeding infants on the flight, or carrying on your forumla to make sure it's not lost. Most airlines will heat bottles and/or baby food and you can always bring cereal dry and mix it with water or formula once on board. I know Continential provides milk because one of my kids doesn't like juice much and he had milk on board. I wouldn't think that crayons would be banned as they're neither liquid or gel but I wouldn't bring paints. I don't know about everywhere, but here our post office gives away coloring books and nice little 8 packs of prang crayons to kids when you go to the counter. I have a collection of these free crayons that I pack for trips.

My kids had their first plane trip this spring and I packed them a bunch of stuff to occupy them. I also had coupons for free headphones. They ended up either watching the shows on the monitors or looking out the window. They hardly played with anything. Next time I'll pack the carry-on's much lighter. One or two small toys, one crayon box and a few things to draw on.

regards

This is copied directly from the TSA website. It is much more thorough than it was the other day. BABY FOOD IS ALLOWED.

How New Security Procedures Affect Traveling With Formula And Breast Milk

August 11, 2006
Baby formula and breast milk are allowed in your carry-on baggage or personal items. You can take these through the security checkpoints and aboard your plane. However, you must be traveling with a baby or toddler. All items including formula or breast milk will be inspected

You or your baby or toddler will not be asked to test or taste breast milk or formula. Our Security Officers will not test or taste formula or breast milk.
Canned, jarred, or processed baby food is permitted in your carry-on baggage and aboard your plane.

Please note, that juice and all other liquids or gels are not permitted.

I have 3 young ones and am going in a month. I always give the baby, now 2 1/2 a cup of milk...but real milk not breast milk or formula..on the takeoff. I also give the older kids juice boxes...does anyone know if they will have milk or juice on the planes?

Plus, we had to pack our nebulizer for my son and actually had to use it on the plane last year...anyone know about how they have been handling medicines? I mean, you can't taste that medication...you inhale it?

Has anyone thought about taking powdered milk and mixing it up with water on the plane? We have tried to get milk before on the flights (several different airlines) and were told that they don't carry milk except for in the morning. Now, this may all change with the new security bans. However, I was thinking that I might take powdered milk for dd1 the next time we fly. I think I would leave it in the sealed box just so I'm not carrying a loose white powder that might add more security questions (the same thing as avoiding carrying formula powder in those three-sectioned containers).

I haven't read through all the replies, but has anyone tried the dried milk? We used this on a camping trip with the cub scouts, and it wasn't so bad. Maybe those of you who have toddlers traveling with you might want to look into that option for the plane. Then all you have to do is fill up a sippy or bottle with water on the plane?
I'm so slow, didn't even think of baby food as a "liquid", so it never occured to me.
One of the first "real" foods my kids ate, and it may be worthwhile trying, because you'd be bringing it dry, is the instant oatmeal. For us, they've always liked their cereal thick like paste, but most of my friends transitioned very easily because they're little ones at baby cereal that was very similar.
Other "dried" foods that might work.....chicken noodle soup, or just chicken broth? Another early food for my DD was ramen noodles. Instant mashed potatoes?
I agree with others, if the luggage is truly lost for any length of time, you'll be able to go to a nearby store fairly easily, items may even be available at DtD. I also like the idea of sending the box.

Here's another option, if the restrictions change or perhaps just for theconvenience, my friend ships down a package to the resort prior to her arrival with non perishables. That way she doesn't have to carry them.
Enjoy your trip!
