Nervous about August

When people say its hot, they mean its upper 90's hot. Hot means something different depending on where you live. I will say you need to plan your day differently. Take lots of breaks. Take in airconditioned rides you might usually skip. Plan down time or pool time. Hydration is a must. I never foudd the crowds to be difficult to manage. Rope drop becomes a neccessity. As the heat creeps up take your breaks. I actually would prefer to go in August than at Christmas time. I can deal with weather, I struggle with crowds. It would rain almost every day at the same time for about 30 minutes. Just started planning to be indoors about that time.

Thanks for all the feedback. I live in south Louisiana so again, heat and humidity will be nothing new. We will be at Disney 8/1-8/7 so I will go with a plan. We love hanging out at our resort (polynesian) so we may do that a lot during the hottest part of the day. I'm not use to going with really late park hours so I will definitely take advantage of those. I'm so excited for our trip. August 2017 will take forever to get here!!! Thanks again for all the help

We are planning a trip to Disney August 2017. We have always gone during December/January. I'm not worried about the heat and humidity as much as I am about the crowds. Can anyone familiar with Disney in August give me info on what the crowds are like in early August? We will be going for 6-7 nights somewhere between 8/1 and 8/10. Please give me your thoughts. We can go as early as late July if it is really no different than early August. We have been to disney enough so this isn't a must see everything trip, but I definitely dont' want to be in the middle of HUGH crowds.
It is very hot in Florida in August but I'm a fair-skinned redhead and I survived so I'm sure anyone can! My best friends were my spray fan and a handcloth for wiping my face but really, you move from air-conditioned attraction to air-conditioned attraction and it doesn't spoil the fun.

Having to consider an August trip next year, and I'm not a heat and humidity person at all! I much prefer our Dec trips, or Nov this year, and not super happy about having to switch. So, what might be even the littlest bit better regarding heat and crowds - Sat/Sun Aug 5 or 6 - Sun Aug 13, or Sat/Sun Aug 12 or 13 til Sun Aug 20?

I hate heat, but it's August or not at all for us and we make it work. Drink plenty, seek shade, wear your sunscreen and a hat, take time out in the AC and make of note of which rides give you a nice break in the cool (especially if they have seats as well!) so you know what to do when people overheat (we rode Ellen's Energy Ride for the first time this summer because it was hotter than the surface of the sun that day in Epcot, and it made a great break!)

We find that we need to plan to be in the parks for 2 parts of each day. We go for two weeks, so RD to closing every day isn't sustainable for us. We would do RD and afternoon, then head back to the resort (if we were still up for more, we sometimes headed back for an evening in the parks, but we went with what felt right), or go midday/later afternoon sometimes and stay through until the park closes. We made sure we planned plenty of down time (that pool at CSR was awesome!) and then added park time in where we could handle it. We found hopping parks sometimes gave us the break we needed too to give us an energy boost.

One idea we've used is park hopping at this time of year. The crowds in the MK can get unmanageable IMO (everyone's limit is different), and the advantage of hoppers is that if you get overwhelmed and it's still early, head somewhere else! As for the heat; drink lots of water and find shade and air conditioning more often than in winter trips. It's the sun (not the heat or humidity) that bothers me the most, you can feel the intensity of the sunlight and it can make you feel sick if you stand in it too long down there in July/Aug.

Just as an aside, I found a good day in July is the 5th! I though it would be slammed, but it was actually the opposite. Just avoid the 4th lol

The later half of August is certainly the better choice as far as crowds go. The heat is beyond belief, as is the humidity. You need to really watch the hydration. I've been visiting in August for the past 9 years, and wound up in the ER this year due to dehydration, so really pay attention to how much you are drinking, even if you don't feel like you are thirsty.

In addition to lower crowd, hotel rates are also cheaper as compared to the first two weeks of August. Free dining is often offered. We usually go during this time of the year.

I wish the last part of August was an option. My kids will be back in school by then. I miss the days when my kids were young enough to miss a week of school. High school is a different story! Thanks for all the feedback. 7 months to go - I will definitly report back on this this trip
