Leaving soon for Disneyland and hubby and I will be wearing pedometers because we have always been curious about how far we are actually walking. We have checked them here at home against a known distance and they are very accurate!

So, if anyone is interested in knowing distances to and from places, let me know and I will be happy to record as many as I can. We are staying at the GCH and will park hop over 4-ish days.

Total nerd alert! :rotfl:

Not a nerd ;) I sometimes wear a bodybugg which measures how many calories you burn in a day and also has a pedometer feature. I didn't wear it last time I went to Disneyland because I didn't want a tan line on my arm from it, but I plan to wear it next time I go for an all-day trip!

A nerd only for trying to use pedometers to accurately measure distances! If the park is busy your steps will be smaller and your data will be off. If ya want accurate distances, get one of those watches that have a GPS built in them download the data to your computer. Wait.. that seems even more nerdy.... nevermind!

Why do curious people allow themselves to be labelled as nerds? I guess I'd rather be a nerd then, if being "cool" means being stupid. I think your idea is great! :cool1:

How fun! I've always wanted to get a pedometer to see how far I've walked.

It's not a pressing need for me, but I know people have asked before how far it is from the back of Disneyland to the back of DCA, or from the back of Disneyland to the front of DCA, or how far it is across Disneyland, etc. So the length and width of the parks in general might be interesting (though that's not something you'd get just from your everyday walking :) ).

Have a great trip, and I'd love to read any numbers you find that you find interesting enough to record. :)

I'm not too interested in place to place distances. But am curious what your total walking per day is.

You're not a nerd, my dh and I wore pedometers at WDW last summer--- for the 4 parks and DTD we walked 54 miles total!!! Now, because of the jerking and bouncing on some of the rides I don't know exactly how accurate it was, but it sure felt like 54 miles, LOL!

I'll be curious to see what your ped shows!
Have a great time!

Yeah, I think I am going to walk from the back of DCA to the back of Disneyland in a straight shot on Monday (which is supposed to be a 1 out of a possible 10 crowd level). It might not be completely accurate, but it will give a good idea of how long it takes and how far it is. Does anyone know exactly the furthest point in each park?

I will also be interested to see how far it is from our hotel room at GCH to the park.

And I think it is cool to be a nerd, but not everyone agrees! :rolleyes1

The pedometer also tracks calories burned (rough estimate), and I am totally using it as an excuse to eat snacks! :)

I have worn a pedo at WDW for a 10 day trip and we averaged about 11 miles a day hitting 12.5 miles once.

One hint for better accuracy, turn it off while on rides as the shaking can add erroneous steps.

OK....

My guess for the back of Disneyland to the Back of DCA would be 3,150'.

But, if you walk from the Chip & Dale Treehouse to where the Maliboomer was, it would be closer to 3,600':confused3

If you use the ruler function on wikimapia to draw a straight line from the back of Toontown to California Screaming in CA, you get a distance of 1.3 km, which is 0.8 miles or 4266 ft. That's as the Condor flies. I would guess that by the time you follow actual pedestrian walkways, you'll end up with a mile, or 5280 feet. Just a guess.

Just an FYI...DL now has the cutest fashion line called "I love Nerds". My daughters fell in love with the little necklaces and shirts. We have lots of Disney nerd merch here.

Day 1:
29,191 steps
9.21 miles
1026 calories (good thing because the night before we ate at Napa Rose!)

Day 2:
21,562 steps
6.8 miles
753 calories

Day 3:
21,301 steps
6.72 miles
735 calories

Grand Totals:
72,054 steps
22.73 miles
2514 calories burned

Messed up my calculations regarding furthest point in DCA to furthest point in DL, but going again in May, so I have time to rectify this! I think I might need a pedometer that can be programmed to record certain distances.

Not bad totals, though. We really pushed it the first day. Hubby's totals were a bit more, since he was the coffee runner in the morning as well as the snack getter in the afternoon. ;)

So in total do you think you burned off your desserts?

Not a nerd at all! I have a pedometer app on my phone and carry it in my pocket at all times. I'll randomly announce how many steps I've taken at any given time, not just at Disneyland haha.

FTR I average about 11 mi/day at DLR/DCA. But we usually stay at HoJo's and that distance is included.

Hope you had fun :)
