We were just at Disneyland Veterans Day weekend and rode Nemo for the first time, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced either a slight or very overwhelming sense of claustrophobia? Once I finally regained my composure I noticed that one side of the sub had a better view than the other. We got in to the park early and went straight to it and basically walked right on. All in all a nice ride but I wouldn't wait in line for an hour. The Nemo ride in Disney World is very similar but does not go under water.

I didn't feel it myself, but have heard of folks that had to get off the ride when they got down in the sub.

If your claustophobic, watch it on the observation platform... you get all the visuals and sounds, your just not in the sub, and you only have to wait a few minutes if someone else is already in there...

Ditto the observation platform (actually a small-not too small-room) We did this with my DM who is claustrophic and the rest of our family (who is line-phobic) and it was great! :cloud9: We only waited about 5-10 min. for the room to open up. Also, the room is air conditioned, the subs are not. I'll ride the subs after the lines subside, in cooler weather. :goodvibes

I was on a sub with a woman who figured out quite quickly, once she got to her seat (all the way at the end) that she wasn't going to be able to do it. We got the attention of the CM, and they got her off the sub VERY quickly. Her family stayed on for the ride, and I hope she was told where the viewing area was so she got to experience the visual part of the ride!

So you're not alone, and it sounds like you were still able to ride!

I think I'm going to have to watch Nemo from the observation deck because I have a huge fear:scared: of being in small places with groups of people.

We will be watching from the room as well. My dd is extremely fearful of stairs and she saw a picture of the stairs and said NO NO NO she isnt going on it. and we were told that with fear of everything else, her personal space might be violated and there are some really loud parts that would be better watched from the room. SO this is what we are going to do no questions asked. haha

OMG, I never thought about my "closed quarters" issue for this trip. Does anybody know if and where I might be able to see a picture of the inside of the sub? How many people ride in each sub? Can a person of average height stand upright inside the sub?

I got a uneasy sense when I rode it the first time. I kept looking up at the legs of the "captain" of the sub and down the length of the sub. When I rode the second time it wasn't so bad.

When I first sat down in my seat, I felt like I was 10 again. It was every similar to the experience I remembered as a child. Of course, I'm much bigger now than when I was 10. I didn't get anxious during the ride.
I do like the idea of the observation deck. I knew it was there, but never considered using it. Got to try it when I there in Dec.

I think each sub holds about 40 people and you're packed in very close. The "closed quarters" kind of bothered me a little when I first got on but once the show started I forgot all about it. I leaned forward close to the window and the ride kept my attention so I didn't think about how close I was to my neighbor.

Thanks guys we are going soon and I was wondering about all this. I hate elevators and just talking and thinking about the sub makes my chest feel heavy. I guess I'll be viewing it from the deck. I've seen Nemo at WDW and it's cute, but I'm not going to sit in a sub to ride it at DL.

You're not any closer to your neighbor in the Finding Nemo ride than you are in Soarin' over California.... My husband and daughter both seem to get concerned about being in an enclosed space for rides, but did o.k. for this one... though, my 5 year old did seem a little more bothered by the 'sub going down' when they show the display of bubbles to indicate you are going 'down.' You can always look up, our of your window, and see the surface of the water above you - you are NOT in deep at all.

Also - the seats were very roomy I found - I didn't feel pressed up against my neighbor at all.

One more thing - I find myself feeling far more claustrophobic going shopping with crowds {the type of crowd where you can't maneuver a cart, etc.} to be far worse than this type of feeling.

I didn't know there was an observation deck - for those wondering if they can handle the ride, it may be a good idea to try that - I didn't find the ride to be worth going on more than once. Special effects were cool, but we all didn't really care to ride it again. (We didn't have that long of a wait, we rode it one hour prior to the parade start time.)

Good luck!!! I should also add -it was very LOUD for our 5 year old. She loves rides like PotC and BTMR but this proved to be too loud, I think, in the end, for her.

I am terribly claustrophobic (hope my spelling is ok), I rode Nemo in July and was perfectly fine! I unfortunately got the end seat and that worried me a little being so far from the exit. And the sub was packed. Once you sit down you have quite a few feet of headroom and each port hole has little vents that blow cool air to keep the windows from fogging up. Once the ride started I totally forgot I was in a sub!!:scared1:
