Just thought i'd let all the coaster fans out there know about Thorpe Parks new inverted coaster for 2003.

The track has already been completed, themeing of the "volcano" station is still going on and surrounding landscaping has commenced. Pictures and information at link below :)

Thorpe Park seems to be re-positioning itself with the addition of a number of thrill rides. Collossus (world record number of inversions), a tall shot n'drop thingy, the Tidal Wave boat ride (quaranteed to get you soaked) have all been added in the last few years. The new Nemesis Inferno looks to be a terrific B&M inverted coaster, with a tightly twisting track and some advernturous themeing. Can't wait for next year! Thorpe Park just gets better and better.

Regards

Rob

You know I have never been to Thorpe Park even though it's only about 40 miles from me ....... yet I have been to WDW 6 times!!!!

Ironic don't you think?:)

I'm the same. I live about 15 minutes away, yet this is the first year I've visited. Up until this year I've always considered Thorpe Park to be a bit of a kiddies park, but it seems to be boosting its thrill ride quotient so I visited during the summer and enjoyed it. For me it's still only a half-day visit before I've done everything I want to, but the park seems to be expanding quickly at the moment, so I have great hopes for the future.

Regards

Rob

The new ride looks awesome (!). Thanks for the info.
Olaf - Thorpe Park is just south of London and we think it is the best "local" theme park we have in this part of England. We always find it worth our while making a trip there each year.
In our opinion Alton Towers (some 200 miles north of London) is however, probably the best theme park we have in the UK - but it entails an overnight stay for us (can be done as a day trip - but rather exhausting - especially if you have to do all the driving as well!). Hope that helps.....

Well,

Being "Coaster Nuts" the whole family have Tussauds Annual Gold Cards, thanks to Tesco Clubcard points.

This gives us access to Thorpe Park, Chessington, Alton Towers, Madame Tussauds etc etc.

We liove about 40 mins from Thorpe Park and Chessington and go most weekends during the summer.

Finally manged to get back up to Alton Towers the other day (About 200 miles North), and stayed on-site.

Going back at the end of the month when DDs are away at Brownie camp.

Any questions?

Sam - you WUSS!

Tussauds are certainly ploughing alot of money into Thorpe Park at the moment. It used to be quite a kid-orientated park but now they understand that to bring in the money, you've got to cater for all.

I visited Alton Towers a little while back, but was quite dissapointed really. Not that there wasn't enough for me (there was plenty) but that there wasn't enough for my parents and sis, the non-coaster/thrillride people. The park also seemed grotty and run-down in so many areas, with not the friendliest of staff. Thorpe Park seems to be a more rounded park with lots of choice for the family, better atmosphere etc. And it's not everyday you get the added bonus of a water park WITHIN a themepark :)

Forgot to mention that Thorpe Park are also adding a Big Wheel and a Flying Carpet ride for 2003 aswell :bounce:

If anyone is curious about finding out more on Thorpe Park, take a look at this great site:

Yes,

I agree with a lot of the comments here - trouble is that you get used to American CM's and American hospitality.

However, we found Alton Towers to be the cleanest of parks.

For us: -

Alton Towers - for big full-on thrill rides

Thorpe Park - A mix of thrill rides and kiddie areas, complete with paddling area

Chessington - Tends to be kiddie orientated - although one or two thrill rides being introduced

Legoland - No thrill rides but will charm the 6 and unders.

I would agree with your comments there, but it isn't just the american hospitality that makes so many brits criticise the state of our parks here in the UK.

Friends of mine had just visited Europa Park in Germany, and now will never ever think of Alton Towers as being a "magical" place unless radical change occurs. I'm not going to complain with them seeing as they are experienced themepark veterans, but they did comment on how Europa Park was just a far superior park (although alot cheaper).

I really didn't find Alton Towers to be that clean, lots of litter and chewing gum everywhere. They also had a HUGE problem with wasps which they couldn't care to deal with, the queue for Oblivion was literally one big wasps nest, quite dangerous :(

And i can't help noticing my parents negative view of the place, they just didn't enjoy themself, except from the Webmaster on Ice show which they did like.

I did enjoy my time at Alton Towers, and was especially impressed by Air, Nemesis & Hex. However, i just couldn't help noticing the tackiness and mess.

Sorry everyone for being so depressing :)
