Our neighbor's dog barked and yowled all night last night. Suffice to say I was not a happy camper. I tried to call them twice after midnight but they didn't answer the phone. I called them tonight - they said they would take care of the problem. Hopefully oc will be able to sleep tonight.

I hope they don't have any Dr Scholl's Sandals. ;) ;)

I hate barking dogs at night, it drives me crazy when I'm trying to sleep.
I hope you get some sleep tonight one cat.

you could spray paint him...that worked for me!!!

Our neighbor across the street has a beagle and that dog used to howl all night long. The neighbor next to them went over one night in the middle of the night and dumped a bucket of water on the dog. He quieted down after that. Good luck.

Do they leave him outside?!?!? I can't imagine anyone doing that in this weather we have had lately! I have 8 dogs and have NEVER had ONE complaint in 25 years of living here! There is no excuse for a yowling dog if he is well taken care of.

Our neighbors who finally moved last summer built a dog run outside of their garage which just happened to be 9 feet from our bedroom wall. When we first moved in here, they would leave their 4 malamutes out there all night long -- howling at the moon. It was so bad, we couldn't sleep. Many nights I slept on the other side of the house in the family room. Then DS came along. His bedroom wall was also adjacent to this area. We started asking the neighbors to put their dogs in at night -- they claimed they couldn't because they were show dogs and needed an appropriate coat?? And, she told me she would hear them at night and think it was cute, roll over and go back to sleep - lucky for her, something we couldn't do.

Then we finally got fed up and started calling the police. They were tickets several times. The story goes on and on and gets worse and worse between us. Come to find out the area they were using was against village code and they had to remove it. Best thing that happened to our neighborhood was when they moved.

I can fully understand your problem and feel really bad for you. It sounds like it's going to be a tough battle. Good luck.

We have a beagle that has howled a couple times throughout the night and we live in a townhome complex!! We've thankfully never had anyone complain, we felt awful, but sometimes you just can't get the dog to knock it off!! Hopefully the dog calms down and quits barking!

I can't stand to hear a dog bark, and my dog is the worst. We tried everything to get him to stop, including all kinds of training classes. Nothing worked, and after having the police stop at my house one day :( I went out and bought him a bark collar. It gives him a warning beep when he barks, then shocks him if he doesn't stop. People think that it's inhumane, but we wouldn't have kept the dog if he kept that up.

I too, think it's wrong for dogs in our climate to be outside all night!!! It has been darn cold here the last few weeks. I am a big animal lover, but people who let their dogs bark drive me nuts. I feel bad for the animals, they are usually good dogs just wanting attention, and their owners are idiots!

My .02 worth(maybe .03 since prices are up on everything:rolleyes: )....
Dogs bark...that's what they do. It is up to their humans to teach them when it is appropriate. Unfortuanately there are still lots of people who have dogs, but want them outside(GGRRRR)...the dog wants to be with the family and barks. This is not rocket science here.

We started asking the neighbors to put their dogs in at night -- they claimed they couldn't because they were show dogs and needed an appropriate coat??

Malamutes being a northern breed will have a better coat if outside I imagine, but I don't really think that they need to be out all the time for this. I have Samoyeds whose coat is thickened by the cold but they aren't left outside all night(or all day for that matter) and yes, I show one of them. People need to be considerate of their neighbors and how they view their dogs...of all people, show people should be better ambassadors to the "non-dog" population.

Bottom line...don't take your anger/frustation out on the dog...it's not their fault, they are doing what comes naturally to them. The owner is the one who is to blame.

Good news - we haven't heard the dog for the last two nights - at all. I think maybe my phone call did the trick and they are keeping the dog in at night now. It's great to be able to get a good nights sleep.

I liked the idea of pouring a bucket of water on the dog but it's a short haired dog and would probably die of pneumonia. I hope they keep it in the house from now on - it would be much happier in there.

Great news, one_cat! Sleep well...:D
