The neighbor man said I have to ask you a question.....Did you get your dog so you would get exercise? I am thinking yes, I am overweight so thanks for noticing:headache: Mr :lmao:

I just replied, yes , we did so we all get off the couch LOL

So everyone, why did you get your dog?

Our life is not complete without one! We adopted Hooch because there are way too many bulldogs in rescue who need good homes, especially now with the economy the way it is. Our first bulldog we got from a breeder, but I would only go the rescue route from now on. We volunteer with the rescue group now.

We got our now 15 y o beagle when he was 6 weeks old for a buddy for our the 11 y o dd.

She was having a rough time in middle school. Best money ever spent.

LOL, strange question from the neighbor. Maybe he's thinking of getting one too and can't decide?

I've always had at least one and so has my DH. We love dogs. There are tons of reasons but if I had to sum it up I guess I'd say they help make our house a home. Even when we lose one we get another right away. They are our special buddies. :lovestruc

Three boys that love pets, our cat died the year before. We always told them one larger animal at a time. We adopted the beagle mix from a rescue group when my youngest was five. Somehow we fell into the chihuahua. Lady who works with hubby, her daughter convinced a family to give her up. She was being abused by the kids, wasn't fed or potty trained. We brought her home to "fatten her up" and find a home for her, Dad ended up falling in love with her. He got upset whenever I mentioned finding her a home.

You could have answered, "no, we got our dog to protect us from some annoying neighbors"....:lmao:

I've always had dogs growing up. They were always part of our family (my parent's are big on animals, we rescued more baby squirrels, turtles in the middle of busy highways/streets, birds that are injured, mice, etc. than I can even remember!). When I was a teenager our cocker spaniel died and about a year later got a yellow lab. She was my best friend. We went for walks and camping all of the time. She died at 9 and it broke my heart. For a long time I didn't think I would get another dog. But I missed the companionship that only a dog can provide. I started looking into low-maintenance smaller dogs (something I could have in an apartment if it came to that). One of my exes had a Miniature Pinscher and I remembered how full of personality it was and that I wouldn't have to brush it or get it groomed. I also researched them and found that they are a very healthy breed (this was important to me as my lab died from hip dysplasia which is very common in labs) and live about 15 years.

I know one day I will have to say good-bye to her but I just treasure every moment I get with her. It is a pain sometimes dealing with her separation anxiety issues but both of these things is worth it for all of the excited greetings when I come through the door, trying to lick my face when I'm sad, and all of the laughing and good moments she has added to my life.

Also, I take her for a 3 mile walk every day and even though I am active with other things, I don't think I would take these walks otherwise. She makes me slow down and enjoy life's simple things.

My dog got me through the junior high years, too!

I can't imagine life without the unconditional love from a dog! They are the best anti-depressant around! I sometimes call mine "my prozac"!

We got our Beagles after we purchased our house.

We got our first one 5 months after we got our house, and the other 6 months later.

DH and I have always loved Beagles, but had never been able to have them.

Plus, every boy needs a dog. Even though DS is more attached to the cat, the dogs are special to him too.

So : We got a dog because we finally could. We have a large fenced backyard, and love the breed we got.

Companionship. Loyalty. Unconditional, non-judgmental love.

Nothing beats the wag of a dog's tail to greet you whether you went into the next room or were gone for hours. I enjoy being the center of the universe for my wonderful little dog. Specifically, we wanted our current dog for companionship for my husband and I and our very elderly dog who was missing his buddy when she passed. Logically, he was deaf, and having a young dog that could hear also offered a small element of protection. My older dog was able to enjoy her companionship for several months before passing. My current dog was a member of our family for enough time to be a part of us and not be a replacement dog. She has helped me grieve and helped lighten my heart. She is very special. I will add that I get more excercise because of her too--which is very good.

For me, life without a dog would be shallow and hollow.

You are sooo much nicer than me! If my neighbor insinuated that I needed to exercise by asking why I got my dog, I would have replied, "No, I got my dog so he could take a slam on your front lawn!":cool2:

I got them because we were never allowed to have a dog or cat growing up and all my siblings say the same thing. There are 10 dogs and IDK how many cats between the 4 of us now. Funny how we all grew up to LOVE dogs so much and we never had them growing up. I think it's because my mom wasn't/isn't really a dog person.

I got mine the day I was diagnosed with cancer the first time. Those dogs were the only thing that kept me sane through chemo and neither my husband nor my adult children can understand the huge attachment I have to them.

we got our dog so we wouldn't want children. and it worked! 4 years later it's still just the two of us! LoL give or take another dog. ;-)

We were adopted by a very sweet adorable brittany spaniel in Nov 2006. At the time my DS was 6 and my DH was 39 yrs old(he never had a dog). So I thought my DH was mature enough to now have a dog. :lovestruc We are not a family of three but a family of four:cloud9: He is my walking buddy too.
