Forget the management, they've already proven their uselessness.

Every single person who has gathered on their porches in the middle of the night MUST call the police non-emergency number to make a standing complaint NOW. Then when it happens again, EVERYONE *must* already have the non-emergency number on speed-dial and start calling when that darn thing goes off. In our area, if people have car alarms or house alarms go off without cause they can be cited for disturbing the peace.

Do not in any way confront the neighbors yourself.

I would be doing this every time. Eventually the Police or teh management will have to address this. I would also call the management office every time as well. We had neighbors who were terrible, they were renting. The landlord refused to get involved. Okay, if I have to tolerate this so did he. I called every time there was an outburst, every time the noise level was outrageous. I think the rest of the neighbors did too. he got tired of being called at all hours and finally took care if the problem.

Do you have a home number for management or just an office number? If you have a home number, I'd start making this a problem for them as well and I would call them every single time the alarm goes off. If you just have an office number, I'd file a complaint the morning after each time the alarm goes off. I would also call the police to find out if the alarm would be considered a noise violation. And if the management still didn't do anything to stop the problem and the police wouldn't fine the offenders, I would be looking through my lease to find some way to get out of it so I could move away.

Find out who owns the car. When the alarm goes off, go beat on their door until they get up and turn it off.

I like this. Although, the owner of the car may not be too stable and I would hate for you to put yourself in a precarious position. Me...I would call the police since you have already tried to resolve it amicably. If you can, go to the police station and discuss it with them. See if they would prefer you call 911 or some other number to get this resolved. Good luck!

I don't think you can "forget the management" if the OP is the only person who has complained to them. I think you first use this method (the EVERYONE call concept), but have EVERYONE who is bothered call management every single time. If it's an answering machine, fill it up every single time. Make a tape of the alarm going off and play it back onto the apartment complex answering machine. Go on the apartment rating websites and say that you really like the complex except for this one problem and that you're dismayed that there hasn't been anything done about it. Write to the local paper. Find out who owns the apartment complex (because the people running the place don't own it) and complain about the service the office is giving in this case. Bad publicity will do a whole lot more than bugging the police. If everyone who is affected calls the non-emergency police number every time this happens, the police will start to get annoyed with the callers, NOT with the apartment managers.

I think that could be dangerous (for them), since I am usually quite enraged when awoken in the middle of the night. I should bring all the porch people with me. lol. An angry mob beating on the door, I am starting to like this idea. Maybe we could bring torches and sticks to poke her with.

How annoying.

What's making it go off between those particular hours every night? Is it a big truck that goes by? Someone leaving for work at that time who bumps it on the way to their car? It's really strange that it happens at around the same time; I don't think those things are attached to clocks are they? Maybe figuring out what is setting it off might help--the person could possibly park in a different spot, or something.

We had an issue with an alarm that went off in the middle of the night for no reason. Turns out our battery was getting old/dying and it would set the alarm off. Who knew? However, we took care of it immediately.

Since the office personnel are not concerned, I'd ask them for their home phone number. Since they don't seem to think it is a big deal to be jarred awake in the middle of the night, you can offer to call them and let them be part of the fun as well.

I'd call the police department and ask what your options are. At a minimum, I would assume it is breaking a noise ordinance.

Call the management and advise them that you will be notifying the police every time it goes off. If only for documentation, they cannot stop you from doing that. Then do it, the PD may not be able to do anything but they can log in or make a report. Get copies of each log note or report - hand them to the office (copies of course)

I am sure your lease also has a noise section or quiet enjoyment clause. I would advise them after you garner enough reports you "may" leave. they are violating your lease. Also advise them you ar emaking all the neighbors aware of this option.

So they can lose them or all of you!! Money talks!!!

I left a note on the windshield and I informed the property manager that I am planning to call the police and file a report every time this continues. If it does go off tonight, I am sharing all of this info with my new porch buddies.

If all else fails we shall mob with our sticks and torches, and set the car on fire.

A soft breeze? Something is def wrong with it. This person gets home around 11pm, and it always goes off somewhere after that within and hour or two. It is an alarm gone haywire!!!!!

BTW it is not a nice car either, no need for an alarm. I am pretty sure you could leave the keys in the ignition with a sign that says "FREE CAR" on the windshield and still have it right in the same spot when they come back. It is a super old beat up Neon. I could lend them my "Club" that thing kept my car safe when I lived in a bad neighborhood.

If the apartment complex management isn't doing something about it by now, I would notify the policy (but not by dialing 9-1-1, just calling the local police), and ask if they can take care of it. That would drive me nuts.

When my daughter was getting her undergrad degree, she and her roommate had some bad neighbors even though they lived in a nice apartment complex. Two guys moved in who partied all the time and had a lot of people making racket until late in the night on a regular basis. DD and her roommate were both in pharmacy school and had to study. Calling management didn't help at all so they finally called the police. One call did it.
