Is that a new thing?

Our local casino is looking to hire 200 summer employees for their outdoor concerts, and they're having a job fair. If you go, you're required to bring two forms of I.D. AND your high school diploma.

Guess I won't be applying for a job there as I have no idea where my diploma would be!!

Have any of you been required to show your actual high school diploma when applying for a job?

No, but I did have to show my PhD parchment for my current job (well a scan of it). I needed the original to get my visa when I moved to the US. Since I got my visa at the airport, this meant that I had to fly with the parchment (which, of course, isn't normal sized and doesn't fit into a file folder so was seriously awkward).

I've never heard of that. I think that my diploma might potentially be in our safe, but if it's not I haven't a clue.

My sister did for a job at a bank. She’s in her 50s so out of school for a long time. Luckily she knew where it was.

The 3 McDonalds in my area are owned by the same family. They require those older than HS age to show their diploma and those in HS have to bring in regular report cards to show that they are still attending school.

I had to bring it when I was hired back in 1985 to the job I just retired from.

No, I've never had to do that. My daughter is a college freshman and is applying for internships. She had to provide her high school transcript. I think that's more relevant than a diploma.

I didn't go to my graduation and never went to pick up my diploma. I was going to do it that summer but kept putting it off. So I guess I'd be out of luck.

I had to show my diploma and transcript for a call center job. There was an awful lot of checking for that job.

Actual diploma? I have no idea where that is. Most employers should accept a high school transcript that would note graduation. I've also got my college transcripts which note my high school graduation.

Just order a transcript. No big deal, you should get it shortly. I graduated high school in 1981 and just recently needed to provide proof of high school graduation. I ordered it and had it in a week.

I looked up how my high school does it. $5 for one and $2 for any additional transcript ordered at the same time. Same day is $6. I suppose they can also be ordered and mailed in a sealed envelope if they insist. I remember when applying to grad schools, my application required sending a sealed, undisturbed envelope directly from the registrar. I'm not sure if employers need that level of detail.

I've yet to be asked for a physical copy of my college degree let alone my high school diploma. Strange.

If they want proof of graduation, most schools have proof of attendance without grades. I have a copy of mine, and it includes every semester I took classes and notes my graduation date and my major. It doesn't list what classes I took.

I needed my college degree for a job once. But thankfully not my high school diploma. I know I saw it when I cleaned out the attic last year. It would probably require another attic purge for me to find it again though.

I have never been asked to show either my high school or college diploma for any job I applied to. I've simply listed them either on the application or my resume.

I do know where both are, but I would imagine that many people do not physically have their diploma.

Sounds like they are looking for entry level employees. Someone who wouldn't have a resume yet.

It may just be a prerequisite where they make no exceptions (like how some places require ID for anyone buying alcohol). However, I'd find it unusual if they say it has to be the original diploma given how many people have no idea where it would be. A transcript or proof of attendance noting graduation should be enough.
