Needed: Swan/Dolphin Spg Wisdom!

Hi-

I've booked part of my stay at the Dolphin for an upcoming trip for my birthday. I signed up for Spg but am not sure what I should do next?

Can you really become a platinum Spg member by purchasing stock? If so....how many stocks must you purchase??

I'd appreciate all your input!

I'm Plat. spg and have not heard of becoming Plat by buying stock. They will in fact match Hyatt, hilton and marriot Plat. memberships! Checkout www.flyertalk.com Go to the starwood board and post your questions. Good luck! It is great being Plat SPG!

I read about the stock idea on the Swan/Dolphin thread. (I read about 15 pages for the details and then gave up....that thread is already well over 100 pages long!) I would sooooo love an amazing room to stay in for my birthday.

Just from what I remember others posting on the stock thing.... You do not get platinum from buying stock. I think you would be considered corporate and the perks aren't that great. You would do much better to either match other cards, or sign up for a Starwood card and earn points which can be cashed in for upgrades and other things. You can also get a Starwood American Express card; everything you charge become points on the starwood card. Then you can use them to upgrade to view or CL. I got my platinum by having them match my diamond hilton card.

I agree with ozziewags, go for the SPG branded Amex card. I believe Starwood will automatically upgrade you to Gold level with that card.
