I need a good self- tanning lotion. I am the mother-of-the groom and need it for my legs. I am pale and in my mid 50's and wearing a 3/4 lenth dress, so I want it to look natural....if that is possible!

People tell me not to wear nylons since I'm wearing an open toe dress shoe...is that true? I'm new to all of this . Any opinions ....Thanks

No, I wouldn't wear nylons. I've never used a self tanner, but you might want to look into spray tan. It's a special occasion, so you want to look good.

I would second the opinion to get a spray tan. I'd have it done about 2 days before the wedding. It will look much better than self tanner, especially if you haven't used one before. :)

If the wedding is outdoors be careful with spray tans- I have gotten nice, natural looking ones from a couple of reputable places but they all "melted" if I got too hot! Mary Kay has an excellent self tanner but it takes weeks to build up because it is very natural looking. Sally Hansen/drugstore has bare legs makeup. Hose is a definite no-no IMO. Congratulations!!

I am also pale, I never really tan. For my sister's wedding, I just used jergens natural glow lotion. It is a moisturizer and gradually builds color, but nothing offensive. Keeps from blinding everyone:)

Victoria's Secret "Beach Sexy" is AMAZING. Use it over the course of a few days at night and you have a beautiful glow. I use it about every other day consistently and I always get asked where I went on vacation and complimented on my skin. I swear by it. Also, every other self-tanner I tried in the past gave me painful pimples when I wore it on my face. This is the only one that never has.

Thanks everyone for all your reply's...my son's wedding is in 3 weeks...no chance of a real tan , we still have snow on the ground. Will have to think about it...a few options out there. Thanks:thumbsup2

Oh and there are nylons that hook on your toes and do not show if wearing the right shoes just in case.

Try the foam in the Jergens brand, its much nicer than the lotion.

They have spa treatments that include exfoliation and tanning cream. This gives you a beautiful even look and smooth silky skin, too. I got a spray tan before and sweated it off pretty badly.

:thumbsup2 I like this and no nasty smell!

I like and use L'oreal Sublime Bronze lotion in a tube, which is available in walmart, target, cvs, etc). I like it because it is tinted so you can see where you put it as it goes on AND it adds an initial light glow. Another plus is that it dries quickly and does not stain clothes. I typically take out a blowdryer after I apply to speed up drying - blow on cool for a minute or two. It does add a slight shimmer, too (very subtle), which from a distance looks like a nice glow. I am 49 and have spider veins on thighs; this stuff really helps to disguise them.

I would add that don't apply too much around ankles or feet, like any self tanner, as those areas seem to easily develop dark spots from self tanner - though simple matter to scrub away with facecloth.

If you're thinking this is too dark, try the Jergens natural glow moisterizer, that gradually (day by day) buids up color. But, this stuff is really gradual, even if you're super pale, I would go for medium. I tend to prefer this for my face, and the L'oreal on legs.

I'd wear nylons - unless you have awesome legs for a mother of the groom. The no nylons rule is for younger women or older women who have good legs....for the rest of us, a spray tan isn't sufficient coverage for age and we end up looking like we are trying too hard.
