We live in Fort Myers so we have been to Disney/Fort Wilderness a lot. We spent 2 weeks last summer over July 4th. We wanted to try something different this year so we booked 1.5 weeks in Branson this year. Now with gas predicted to be over 4.00 a gallon it would be 1800.00 in just gas to get there and back. For 2300 I can book 2 weeks at Fort Wilderness. We are hearing that Branson is a lot of religious shows. Not sure what to do.

We just spent the week of Thanksgiving in Branson and had a fabulous time! We enjoyed the Jesus show at the Sight and Sound Theater, however there is plenty to do if you aren’t interested in anything religious. Dixie Stampede, Bass Pro in Springfield, Fritz’s Adventure, 1984 Arcade, and way more!…plus so many wonderful places to eat. We took a (long) day trip up to Marceline to visit all the Disney sites and had a wonderful day there. College of the Ozarks is a religious school, but nice to visit. The concept of working off your degree and graduating debt free is awesome. And the restaurant at the college, Keeter Center, was top notch. We plan on going back for a summer visit in a year or two. I think that’s the ideal time to go. Everything is open and the outdoor stuff is more appealing. Though we did hike in the cold.

Silver Dollar City is so fun! We went on 3 of the busiest days of the year, but because we are Disney semi-pros, it was easy to read a few tips and make a plan to enjoy the time without standing in lines and it worked. The Disney outlet in Branson had some great sales (before Black Friday too!) darth Vadar spirit jersey I’ve been wanting for $20.

That is a lot of money for gas though! Prices kept creeping up before our trip and I understand questioning if that’s a wise choice. We use the Gas Buddy app on the road to help us find the least expensive gas along our route. 5 and 10 cents a gallon at every fill up can add up. Here’s to a great summer trip no matter what you chose!

We have friends that use to own resorts in Branson and we have been going down since the 80s (we live in the St Louis area). The area is definitely focused on conservative "family" values. (It is southern Missouri) There is a strong Christian presence, but we are neither Christian nor conservative and we still enjoy the area. There is plenty to do for everyone (except gamble for DW :) ) Lots of great suggestions from @BarlowFamily. There is also Table Rock Lake with lots of boating, great fishing and outdoors activities. Don't forget LOTS and LOTS of shopping.

You could always wait and see if gas prices go down next year and go somewhere closer. But if its I always wanted to go there trip, then just do it. Money xan be replaced, memories are forever.
