emerald? gold?silver?amber?

Have you actually heard of people with these surnames, ariel75? Amber, Ruby, Violet and Magenta have heard of as first names, but not surnames. Deedee, are you after just surnames or surnames and christian names?

Tan is a common Oriental surname (Chinese etc) - assume that will work.

both as long as they are names.

The way i read the thread was colours that were also names but it did not necessarily say peoples names or surnames.
Maybe i misread the thread.
But some of the names that people call there kids nowadays maybe there are some of them :rotfl:

True, in a way... I think it is a difficult question: people DO call their kids all manner of names these days (so even "yellow" is probably a name that someone is called somewhere), but if you take that line then it is a silly quiz question... (i.e. someone could list "yellow" as a name, they are challenged, but would reply "how do you know someone ISN'T called yellow?!").

So you have to draw the line somewhere... I know (or have heard) of people called "Violet", "Amber", "Ruby", but I haven't heard of a "Plum" or a "Lemon" or a "Yellow"...

The more I think of this, the more I think it isn't the best quiz question (i.e. it isn't well defined)...

... There was Jack Ruby who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, JFK's assassin, but I agree it's tough really knowing if a colour qualifies for a surname or not.

Perhaps you could change it to people having to think up colour surnames that belong to well known people?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the thread properly, and see it doesn't matter if it's a first or last name!
