DH and I have seperate Christmas parties to go to, and both are having a Yankee Swap. There is a $15-$20 limit. I was just looking for new ideas this year. Any unique or favorite things you have gotten/given in the past? I always get something from Crate and Barrel, like holdiay mugs or plates or glasses or something decorative. Other favorites have been Yankee candles, Bath and Body, Special coffee, gift certificates and of course scratch tickets. Please give me some new ideas! :)

We do a yankee swap with my family every year and the biggest hits are always bottles of wine or alcohol gift sets with a small bottle and glasses.

what's a yankee swap? At first I thought this was a thread about swapping yankee candles.

A Yankee Swap is where you buy a generic gift and then people take turns picking out and unwrapping a gift. There is sometimes and option to "steal" a gift from someone else, so it's best to get a gift that will be desireable to more than one person.

Personally, I prefer consumable gifts. I would get a box of high-end chocolates, like Godiva or Lindt.

Me too.

I feel Ive been living 33 years in a Holiday Hole-in-the-ground! I *JUST* learned about "White Elephant" gifts, and yesterday learned about "St Nicks Day" from these boards!!!

Where in the heck have I been??? :confused3

Wait a minute! This was taught to me as a "white elephant" thing - isnt it?!?!?

See??? I have no idea what Im doing unless I wrap it, and give it Christmas morning, with a gift receipt. Take it or leave it!

Same thing. Different name.

A S'mores Kit-marshmallows, choco bars, graham crackers hot cocoa and some nice mugs

Movie Night- Microwave popcorn, soda, chocolate bars and a gift certificate or old movie

A Cold Kit- chicken soup, crackers, ginger ale, cough drops, a warm blanket or hot water bottle

Ice Cream box- sundae fixins and nice ice cream dishes

there's so many you can do like these. Unfortunately, the one's I'm going to have a spending limit of $5, little hard to be creative!!

How about one of the original 2 burger size George Foreman grills? I did that a few years ago and it was really a hit!

LOL, that would be fun, too. LadyyRedd, where would you find that grill? I checked into a few places but all they had were the pricier ones. Thanks for the ideas everyone, keep them coming! :)

For my Bunco Dirty Santa presents, I bought a Martha Stewart Baking Cookbook (hardback book w/ beautiful color pictures for $20) and I also bought the book 1000 Places to See Before You Die (paperback for $11). I went a little over the $25 limit, but everyone else usually does too.
